the point that you guys are always missing here in this topic, is that...

simply, i do not care if it is real or not.  i do not worship it, nor live my life around it.

i can live in my so called fantasy world...because im gonna leave this reality soon enough anyways.  i might as well have fun while i am here. at least im having fun with my imagination, as opposed to having fun on heroin.  its all fantastical.

Here you go...

1 - the zodiac has shifted in the sky by one full constellation since astrology was first set up. However, most astrologists simply ignore this shift lol! In other words, if astrology calls you a Scorpio, you are really a Libra!

2 - there is no correlation between the "compatibility" of couples' astrological signs and their marriage and divorce rates

3 - studies have been done that have found no connection between astrological signs and leadership, physical characteristics, career choices, or personality traits

4 - a study of more than 3000 predictions by famous astrologers found that only a small percentage were fulfilled. These "succesful" predictions tended to be vague ("There will be a tragedy somewhere in the east in spring") or easily guessed from current events.

5 - if astrologers are asked to match people with their horoscpes, they do not perform better than would be expected by chance (Kelly, 1999)

It is a case of uncritical acceptance. Notice horoscopes are always nice? The never say

It's the fallacy of false positives. We pay attention to and remember positive things said about us, while ignoring those that don't match us.

Here...guess which sign this is.

Of college students who were aked if this sounded like their personality profile, only 5 of 79 thought it was innacurate. Anotherstudy found that most people rated this profile as more accurate than their horoscope! (Coon, 10 ed. 2004)

Ive read all of this skepticalness, but i still have been dearly influenced by the author linda goodman, who has given me no reason to doubt her calculations.

I think its fun, and you think its false...

Thats cool with me. Plus i dont know where you got these excerpts, but they do sound like very broad horoscope typical sun sign descriptions. Im not into that.

And one more thing, i wasnt trying to convince anyone, its not like I am a jehovahs witness for the stars ok? I posted this to piss you off, lol.

No offense, but its a few pages of psychobabble. I dont usually knock astrology, its just a form of entertainment. I'd rather put faith in christianity (and thats saying alot) than in astrology.

Not to mention the simple, inescapable fact that your sun sign isn't what you actually are. The dates shift every 78 years, and the signs that most charts are based off of are based off of the suns position from much longer than that.

Its good for entertainment, and maybe as something that tells you what you already know you need to hear.. so its not useless. Being a system based off of humankind's imprefect observations of his (or her) universe... its going to be flawed.

In the end though, if it makes you feel better, then it is a good thing. If it gives people a sense of purpose, then its a good thing. Thats how i see it anyway.
