You can explain how Santa Claus's sled flies too, but that doesn't make him real.

Every study done to date where proper controls and double-blind methodologies were used to ensure a fair evaluation has shown only the results that would have occurred anyway due to random chance, no better.

the point that you guys are always missing here in this topic, is that...

simply, i do not care if it is real or not.  i do not worship it, nor live my life around it.

i can live in my so called fantasy world...because im gonna leave this reality soon enough anyways.  i might as well have fun while i am here. at least im having fun with my imagination, as opposed to having fun on heroin.  its all fantastical.

i bet you guys are earth signs, lol.  critical ole kids.

--------------------
A plethora of music aspirations control my temptations of future revelations beyond "now". The percussion, and the heart beat of my love and devotion. The rhythm goes beyond, prying into the third eye, releasing the creativity held so far inside. The melodicies, through the out of tune pianos and broken classical guitars...there lies a beauty. A beauty as prevelent as the fire inside. To release these energies is pure ecstacy, to deveop these gifts is sacred. The vocality, so pure as can be, shying away from herself, lies within me. For the underlying serenitity, this is what I live for. I plea for harmony, and nothing more. Music equals love. Creation of love leads to the procreativity of the World, and it's spirals and puddles prevailing.

wow what a long, non-substantive post

you provided nothing convincing lol

Here you go...

1 - the zodiac has shifted in the sky by one full constellation since astrology was first set up. However, most astrologists simply ignore this shift lol! In other words, if astrology calls you a Scorpio, you are really a Libra!

Need more?

2 - there is no correlation between the "compatibility" of couples' astrological signs and their marriage and divorce rates

need more?

3 - studies have been done that have found no connection between astrological signs and leadership, physical characteristics, career choices, or personality traits

4 - a study of more than 3000 predictions by famous astrologers found that only a small percentage were fulfilled. These "succesful" predictions tended to be vague ("There will be a tragedy somewhere in the east in spring") or easily guessed from current events.

need more?

5 - if astrologers are asked to match people with their horoscpes, they do not perform better than would be expected by chance (Kelly, 1999)

Lol.

It is a case of uncritical acceptance. Notice horoscopes are always nice? The never say

"VIRGO - You are the logical type and hate disorder. Your nitpicking is unbearable to your friends. You are cold, unemotional, and usually fall asleep during sex. Virgos make good doorstops."

lol...

It's the fallacy of false positives. We pay attention to and remember positive things said about us, while ignoring those that don't match us.

Here...guess which sign this is.

"You have a strong need for other people to like you and for them to admire you. You havea tendency to be critical of yourself. You have a great deal of unused energy which you have not turned to your advantage. While you have some personality weaknesses, you are generally able to compensate for them. Your sexual adjustment has presented some problems for you. Disciplined and controlled on the outside, you tend to be worrisome and insecure inside. At times you have serious doubts as to whether you have made the right decision or done the right thing. You prefer a certain amount of change and variety and become disssatisfied when hemmed in by restrictions and limitations. You pride yourself on being an independent thinker and do not accept other opinions without satisfactory proof. You have found it unwise to be too frank in revealing yourself to others. Some of your aspirations seem to be pretty unrealistic"

Of college students who were aked if this sounded like their personality profile, only 5 of 79 thought it was innacurate. Anotherstudy found that most people rated this profile as more accurate than their horoscope! (Coon, 10 ed. 2004)

Ive read all of this skepticalness, but i still have been dearly influenced by the author linda goodman, who has given me no reason to doubt her calculations.

I think its fun, and you think its false...

Thats cool with me. Plus i dont know where you got these excerpts, but they do sound like very broad horoscope typical sun sign descriptions. Im not into that.

And one more thing, i wasnt trying to convince anyone, its not like I am a jehovahs witness for the stars ok? I posted this to piss you off, lol.

Im glad i made you look!

:P

Well that's good.

Thanks. Sorry, but I'm just discussing something rationally. If it was your purpose just to "piss" me off, lol...well I'm sorry. I don't take this absolute fairy-tale crap seriously enough to get emotinal about it.

All hail Saturn!!!!

I was being sarastic sir.

discussing something rationally?

i am happy you made the post you did, but i dont agree with the generalized horoscope bullshit.  have you ever had your birthchat done?  would you even give it any thought?  just cause one thing sounded off?  its just for entertainment man.  can you see?  being irrational is FUN!

:giggles and flutters away to the Ares Magikal land of nonsensical puddle of reality, pixie flizzin!:

mynd, im sorry you have to have all the rational answers.  you might turn out to be a very unhappy elder.  where is your inner child, after all?

Cause saturn is now entering leo for the next two years, and it is time to focus on that inner child, and learn the lessons of responsibility that father time has set up for us all!

I am an astrology skeptic and way too lazy to read the first post in its entirety.

Acid doesn't give you truths; it builds machines that push the envelope of perception. Whatever revelations came to me then have dissolved like skywriting. All I really know is that those few years saddled me with a faith in the redemptive potential of the imagination which, however flat, stale and unprofitable the world seems to me now, I cannot for the life of me shake.

No offense, but its a few pages of psychobabble. I dont usually knock astrology, its just a form of entertainment. I'd rather put faith in christianity (and thats saying alot) than in astrology.

Not to mention the simple, inescapable fact that your sun sign isn't what you actually are. The dates shift every 78 years, and the signs that most charts are based off of are based off of the suns position from much longer than that.

Its good for entertainment, and maybe as something that tells you what you already know you need to hear.. so its not useless. Being a system based off of humankind's imprefect observations of his (or her) universe... its going to be flawed.

In the end though, if it makes you feel better, then it is a good thing. If it gives people a sense of purpose, then its a good thing. Thats how i see it anyway.

Hitler gave the Nazis a deep, profound sense of purpose...
And, hey, by the way, ever notice that demonizing marijuana gives many people a sense of purpose - makes them feel good?
