not for starters, but if you find the right point maybe endorphins, another set of points and no endorphins but you don't feel just your leg, what is that??? wiring. layout of the brain? precision.

buckets of chemicals if carefully arranged, might make a man (or a dog), but the precise arrangement of them is what makes the miracle not the mere presence of them in a room.

The organization goes back to organs, tissues, cells, organelles, and micro-chemical-environments packed up so that they generate and recycle the larger structures (atp is used throughout but a bucket of atp is nothing until it is introduced to the right micro environment) layout and architecture is all important.

I think you were getting at the true fact that neuronal conduction without chemicals does not work at all, and certain lovely chemicals can boost some neuron activity for a while, and these chemicals do become quite interesting that way.

What I am pointing out is that the precise positioning of certain nerves underlays the results of their conduction more importantly than what might trigger them via natural chemical cues and analogues of natural ones.

Acupuncture's effect is all about precise electrical stimulation within this architecture. It involves specific nerves turning off pathways with precision, and turning others on without a gross chemical vector (tiny vectors in the specific localized synapses are certainly chemical).

those pathways can be affected by gross chemistry - less accurately than by acupuncture. (i.e. knockout or turn on a large area of neurons instead of just a specific few)

so when I say look at acupuncture it is to highlight the precision complexity and arrangements that makes up the brain and body. Sure chemistry can affect it by large measures, and sure it uses chemicals internally, but all is not just chemistry here. At least not just chemistry without complex packaging layering integrating -systems- and coordination.

what is distinctly human is not only our shape, but the extra cerebral cortical real estate we have that has been architected to enable complex detailed thought and abstractions between those complexities.

animals already have basic associative thought but only rudimentary abstraction, near linguistical.

I heard that damage to the prefrontal cortex is associated with immoral behavior. I think it is too early to lay it down like that.

sometimes people have difficult choices that are unclear whether one or the other will lead to betterment of mankind.
people who live in poverty they don't have indulgences yet they labor much harder just to stay alive. they do what they can to improve the world. they try to teach their children to be better people than they themselves were. i say props to anyone who does their laundry once a week, takes their garbage out and rides a bike now and then. that's how i define human.

actually, I would say that my primary influence in writing this was Crowley, as I have been reading a lot of his work and have become quite enamoured with him recently.

"Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law."

Notice that this statement is often misinterpreted; people often replace the word 'wilt' with the word 'want'.

Crowley was a mystic who, IMO was continuing the work of Jesus (ie: the reconcilliation of eastern and western religion).

According to Crowley, the desire is a force that corrupts men, and the Will is a force that (when properly cultivated) controls desire.

Though the man himself was an addict and a rabble rouser, his writings have overshadowed the events of his life, and I have found his philosophy to be quite inspiring.

Hitler followed his message actually. Hitler played the game of natural selection. His criteria was personal like and dislike, his tool, extreme violence. The weak died, the strong survived.

i thought will was the same as desire

i've seen drug addiction and unwanted parenthood cause people a lot of problems. i agree it's sad to see.

but let me get this straight- are you saying people should control their desires because it will keep them safe from being surprised by bad consequences?

to a certain extent, yes.

I would say that the leading cause of unhappiness is desire run amok. People want more than they can have, and it makes them unhappy. I see it every day.

of course, there are those cases of unhappines caused by unfortunate circumstances and random events, but if you can control your desires, accepting these negative outcomes will be all the more easier.
