Possible Copelandia cyanescens?
    #4422065 - 07/19/05 02:37 AM (18 years, 8 months ago)

My first post! I was hoping you guys could help me with an identification. As far as I can tell they're Copelandia cyanescens, but I figured your trained eyes could more positively identify them.

Pics

They were found growing in cow dung, in central Texas, maybe 120 miles from tthe gulf coast. Temperature was about 80 F, and it rained two days previous, with a light sprinkle this afternoon. I picked them about 10pm.

They feel a bit slick, almost as if covered with a thin film of teflon.
They seem to be very fragile, breaking apart fairly easily. I can't say that I have enough experience to compare them to.
I can sense no distinct odor.
I noted a vaguely blueish bruising, though this may just be wishful thinking.
They don't taste like much of anything.

Hope that's enough information, and that the pics are useful. If not, i'll be keeping an eye on this thread and would be more than happy to supply any more information. I look forward to your thoughts, and thank you for your time.

Hi ProjektChrysalis, welcome to the shroomery. I don't think they are, they don't call them blue meanies for nothing. It's hard to tell by your pics.
Read the ***PLEASE READ**** sticky at the top of the forum page and list accordingly.

peace

Some of those are inky caps as far I could tell but hard to say anything but don't eat those.

My quess is that they are Psathyrella candolleana.
picture from rogersmushrooms.com
now it doesn't make sense that they would be growing on cowdung. but that seems what they are.
the blueing you think you see is probably just on the caps and is a result from the cap being so thin and the gills having a slight lilac tint to them.

Do not eat.
