poor mans pod humidity issues
    #4414315 - 07/17/05 10:00 AM (18 years, 8 months ago)

hey, this is my first post and I'd like to say that this site is awesome. I've been reading on this site for a couple weeks now. I read the entire original thread on the poor mans pod (its like 50 pages) and I'm still having issues... I have a 95 qt Rubbermaid container w/ temp Gage, humidity Gage, 60gal air pump hooked up to 2 air stones... and 4 inches worth of geolite. There is a good 1.5 inch evap. zone... THE PROBLEM IS... I'm only getting 90% humidity. My main question is, Is this really a problem? is 90% not enough? and what tips do you guys have to increase humidity?

PS. I'm using air stones and the tek says air wands. Is this a potential problem?

Thanks guys.

I would say you're fine. A PMP set up properly is almost fail safe when it comes to humidity. You seem good to go.

When I did cakes, i used these, worked Great,

Good Luck.

wow that looks awesome. you have the same humidity guage i do... why did you set it up like that? with the bottles that the air lines are going to? and the wire mesh? you didnt want to use geolite? what are your cakes sitting on? should i sit them on something similar or just set em on the geolite?

sorry for all the questions. you blew me away :P

That humidity Gage is, for lack of a better term, horse poo. If that's what you are using to check your humidity, don't put much faith in it. You will be replacing it within a month. They can't handle the constant high humidity levels. I went through 3 before I returned them all and got some of these,

D.O.B.A. but a little pricey,$41.99.

I made a screen mesh to set the cakes above the perlite so it would function properly. Didn't want to set everything on top and impede it's wicking ability.

I ran the airstones into H2O2 and water mix to help keep the air clean.

Cakes are sitting on verm. Double End Cased.

You can set them on the geolite. I just don't like the mess. I got those plastic containers for a nickel. Makes removing cakes to work on them a lot easier and cleaner.

Good Luck.

Yes, 3 %. 10:1. I even put a splash of bleach in the water with the perlite.

Wow hippie... I haven't seen you post pics of that before. I still have a few PMP's with lavarock and it is a BITCH to clean. Your setup looks nice and easy. I think I'm gonna convert my PMP's to what you have there... first a few questions.

1. I take it that you are using the water bottles for air exchange? Or did you fan (and mist?) those bad boys? Or are they simply to keep the air clean?

2. Did you have holes in the lid for air exchange?

3. What's the yellow stuff in the water bottle?

4. Do you still use those things?

Okay, thats enough....
