Tips for the "poor man's terrarium"?
    #767038 - 07/22/02 08:55 AM (22 years, 4 months ago)

IN a few days, i will be using the poor man's terrarium (from mmgg) for the first time... anyone with experience with this method have any tips for me? my main concerns were with actual growing space inside the bottle and the effectiveness of the wet paper towel in keeping up humidity... would perlite be overdoing it? any info would be great

yeh, the VERY first cake i ever had, i slapped up a pmt with about 2" of wet perlite and enough standing water to fill the little notches on the bottom of the container- make sure you cut the bottle and all to make it smaller in size- i misted probably everyday(the walls and top) which might not have been needed (as long as theres water on the sides, its straight) and in a few days my cake fluffed up

oh yeh and theres a new rule around now- you must DUNK your cakes sometime!

My advice to you is to get a rubbermaid. They are real cheap at Wal-Mart.
