Rubbermaid window?

My uncle was wondering if he's gonna need to cut a hole in his rubber maid container to make a window so light can get in? or would it be safe to just leave the top off while they are incubating in the jars, as long as the temps are 70-80?

Do mushies need light to initiate pinning?

What? Leave the top off while there incubating? No! You'll only want to give them light when they are 95% or 100% colonized. I give them 7.5 minutes in the morning and 7.5 minutes at light by taking the top off my terrarium. If you want some kind of cycle (12/12 or 24/0 etc.) cut a hole and go with saran-wrap (cheap, easy) or plexi-glass ($$$, little harder).

so they just need light to initiate pinning, then they can be put in the perlite terrarium rubbermaid in the dark?

how many days would you reccomend giving light?

well, i am not exper but here is what i have gotten from my readings:

Incubation-95%
No Light

95%-100%
you can give some ligt if you want to start pinning in your jars

In Terrarium
kind of an ongoing deal, some say just a few min a day, and other say up to 12, not sure whether it really matters all that much, but they at least need a couple minutes a day to pin and grow (toward the light)
