I was thinking of buying two one to try the cake method and one to try using the casing method. I was going to mix and match lids at the store so that i have an opaque container with a clear lid. I was also thinking of cutting a hole in side and putting some sort of air filter piece. To my knowledge which is very extensive with these matters is that the opaqueness keeps the shrooms growing up as well as preventing any fat asses. Any thoughts?

hey dude i used rubbermaid and perlite for my terr. heres what i did - i cased my grown mycelium in shoebox size containers with potting soil and verm. then i made a rubbermaid terr. for each of my casings - i put pelite in the bottom of some larger size bins (about 12" x 12" x 18") and then set the casing in the rubbermaid bin, using some cardboard strips to elevate off the perlite. anyway, my bins are clear, with opaque tops. im not an experienced grower, but i got results that made me very happy just by keeping these bins next to my window. i didnt make any holes or anything, just did air exchange about 3 times a day. if i noticed the sides of the rubbermaid thing were getting to dry, i misted them. thats all. and i had a great trip this weekend =). good luck

The holes worked for me.They provided some air change, but I still did some fanning.People have success with them and with out them. I've had better luck with them.
