covering early mycelium in casings?

how important is it to cover early mycelium? if i keep the casing in the dark until it's say 60-70% colonized, will the parts that started early be heading towards overlay already? if it is really important, do i need to resterilize some casing or can i use the casing material i sterilized in the first place that's been sitting in tupperware covered with foil (not in fridge)?

It's important. Also, you really ought to birth before 60 -70%, more like 1/3.

>more like 1/3. ...or even less The aim is to initiate pinnig(unvover the asing, expose to light, lower the temperature) when the valeys of the casing are colonized.

Im with Anno on that 1.. even less.. more like 10 %.. At least with the EQ strain... early pinning inititation works great cause by the time Your ready to fruit you have a flush with no chances of overlay. As for covering mycelium i've noticed that I never manage to get an even pinset wether I cover the first exposed patches or not.. maybe it will come with time...

about initiating pinning... my temperature is already a little too low. in the mid to upper 70s.... the place where my jars fit the terrarium doesn't, and the outside temp has gone down in the last week or two, and i don't have a way of heating from the outside yet... so, how do initiate pinning when i want to? will uncovering the windown i have in the top of my rubbermaid be enough (which is covered by a blanket now all the time... except when i'm checking on my casing)? should i try putting it in the fridge for 12-24 hours? also, my humidity has been too high: 98-99%. how do you guys recommend lowering it? would just pushing a hole or two in the top of the terrarium work? leaving it cracked open a little bit brought down the humidity too much, to about 70%....
