Maybe the deadly galerina. Be sure you know what one looks like. Its often listed as a lookalike in books allthough I dont think it looks to much like a subb.

heh just make sure the gills are very very dark and jet black spore print , JET black , foes have dark brown spore print but not poisonous , the thinner stemmed variety usually grow in well fertilized grass , in pastures they will have thicker stems

I think you were referring to Panaeolus Subbalteatus.

If your looking for Pan Subbs, i doubt you will have to worry about galerina autumnalis. There habitats are completely different, and in my opinion, they look nothing like each other.

If he's looking for Panaeolus subbalteatus, the habitat is similar enough that he may find Galerina marginata, a deadly species. Inocybe is also a genus which can crop in the same areas (it just happens to be mycorrhizal with the nearby trees instead of saprophytic), and Inocybe species have caused fatalities in Europe.

Happy mushrooming!

Yes I am looking for Panaeolus subbalteatus and I don't know why I spelt it like that. Thanks for the heads up, I'll keep my eyes peeled.

The "Girdled Panaeolus", Panaeolus subbalteatus, has no poisonous look-alikes. As long as you are sure what pan subs look like, there should be no problems. There are look-alikes, mainly psathyrella foenisecii, which is a common lawn mushroom (and edible), and panaeolus acuminatus, which is similiar but more of a reddish-brown and won't bruise blue. I think it is non-edible, but non-poisonous. Just not an edible mushroom that you would want to eat.

most subbs dont bruise blue anyways, and if they do its only usualy on the mycelium coated base of the stem. and I see alot of people (sadly) confuse psathyrella gracilis for subbs too, they arent poisonous by my book but they are nothing i would suggest consuming.
