pan subb lookalikes
    #4374946 -

are there any pan subb lookalikes that grow in manure, have a dark black sporeprint, no veil, are tan with a darker tan ring on cap.. lets see... dark gills.. stuff like that? it seems the subbs are "so common as to be called weeds" so the majority of things looking like it, are probably it?

thanks

What are the stems like?
When you squeeze the stem, what does it feel like? (strong, weak?)
Do the gills hang below the edge of the cap?

Pics always help  :smirk:

stems are weak.. seem almost hollow though im not sure if they are
gills do hang below the edge of the cap

largest cap was around 1".. smallest was maybe 1/4"
longest stem was around 3", shortest maybe 1.5"
cap was bell shapped or knobed at first.. becoming flat, but keeping the little nipple thing in the middle of it..

hmm... and they were mostly growing in clusters, some alone, in manure/dirt

wish i could get pics they are so beautiful!

The gills are supposed to be even with the margin, rarely hanging below, likewise the stems are supposed to be fairly strong and beefy for the small mushrooms.

Im going to say no on the pans, but somone with more experience could probably be of more help.

Look for little dark lines starting where the gills attach and running down the stem.

Are the lines there?

stamets psilocybian mushrooms of the world says pan subb's stem is "Brittle, hollow, and fibrous."

gills seem even with the margin on younger specimens.. its lower when it starts to flatten out.. stamets also says "The tendancy of the cap to plane with age is also taxonimicaly significant." is he talking about the flatten out?

thanks for the help... wish i had a cam!
