placement of colony in casing

I've read that it is important to place the cake right side up when casing because the mycelium is oriented toward growing upward. Is this true? If you slice the cakes before casing, does it matter which way they are placed? Thanx

No. The colonization will happen both ways. It will, most likely, colonize towards light. When fruiting light is important to tell the mushrooms which way is up.

Well, then here's another question Phrozendata...........Is it better to say, slice the cakes or to crumble them in a zip-lok and then case in poo? AND...how many 1/2 pt jars in a 12x10.5 pan? Now this is for EQ's, so I was thinking of using 1 inch of compost/manure or maybe just manure(haven't decided yet) I actually like the idea of coir, too. Any help? ~K~

I crumble in a ziplock bag and case with 4parts peat moss: 2parts vermiculite: 1 part powdered lime. 3 of the 1/2 pint jars should be just about perfect for a 10"x12" tray

Please don't case with poo, unless you intend to harvest contaminants.

Cool.....I have only 5 jars left, so I guess 3 and 2 will work or maybe 2 1/2 in each tray. Anyone else...feel free to add your 2 cents(or more) :D I need all the input I can get. It's almost time to birth 'em. Also, I was reading in some other threads about premature birthing of the cakes. What's the general consensus on this idea. I have 2 jars right now that are probably 60-70%. Thanx guys....if I get good flushes and decent prints...I'll spread the love ;) ~K~
