I slice my cakes a little less than an inch, but save like one half of a cake. With that half cake, I either crumble it up to fit in all the gaps or cut the slice into quarters in order to fit into the gaps between the other slices. By doing this, the whole surface is covered with mycelium. It will grow through the soil very quickly. Good luck.

i recently cased a few jars. I crumbled the cake then put the peat moss/vermiculite on top. Its been two days and the mycelium is starting to poke through the top layer. Hopefully only a couple more days until i can induse pinning.------------------ "People who think they know everything are a great annoyance to those of us who do."
