1st time, case or cake?

I have a pint cake that is about one week away from birthing. This is my first time growing and I was wondering if I should birth the cake in a terrium(tupperware) or case it alone in a small tupperware tub. I know casing has a better yeild, and birthing is less prone to contams. Any advice would help,(especially from the pros)

if it was a 1/2 pint I'd say cake but it's a pint so case it, try straight verm for your first time this will reduce the chance of contams when this is done successfully then move on to another type of casing...

so should I put verm on the bottom and on the top of the crumbled cake? should I moisten the verm, could I use perlite on the bottom?

agree with the above. casing for dummies is good, although the bottom layer is probably not needed. read up on casing, so you have a really good idea what is out there, and you have a good sense of what you are doing, when you actually do it!
good luck.

well people have used perlite on the bottom before, but you'll still have to place it in a separate container to avoid contams, can'r just dump cakes onto perlite in grow chamber and verm on top. the best way to(for a newbie) case is either plain verm, or better yet (this is one of the most consistent casings) 50/50; it gives better yeilds and its easier to spot contams.
Verm only
Verm. (moist)
Crumbled/sliced cakes
Verm. moist
50/50
peat moss+verm(moist)
Crumbled/sliced cakes
Verm. moist
good luck

On my first attempt i did a straight verm casing. I threw down about 1/4" moist verm, crumbled the cakes evenly over that, then covered with another 1/8-1/4" verm layer in less than a week it was pinning. Good luck
