We were just curious to know if it's possible to case a whole-birthed PF style cake. And if so, what would you case it with and what would b the results? Better mushrooms? Worse? How do you do it? thanx...

We know good and well about crumbling the cakes and then casing them but that's not what we're talking about. We mean leaving the cake in it's whole form and somehow (if possible) adding a casing over the entire WHOLE cake. We're not stupid...

You don't know how to case or what to case with, but you aren't stupid? No, of course not. *cough* So, why do you want to leave the cake whole? Are you sure you've read the FAQ and everything? Have you looked at SOS? Why don't you just do something like that if you don't want to break up your cake for some reason?

I've heard of what your talking about (casing a cake whole) ....The answer you seek is on fanaticus' site there you will find that casing it will work but your yeilds will be slightly less....if you going with the pf tek stay with it...You would be hurting your yields

Taken from fanaticus website... Fanaticus Casing Double Casing TEK ________________________________________________________________ After the first flush is done, clean the cake of all abhorted primordia and fungi nubs (a sharp knife blade will work). fill a jar cap with vermiculite, soak it and drain it. Place the now cleaned post first flush cake upside down on top of the wet vermiculite (top left photo). Carefully wet the now top vermiculite layer (a thin layer that adheres to the cake) that used to be on the bottom. When the cake is first birthed, most of this top layer is scraped away, but there will be a thin layer that adheres to the fungi. This becomes the top casing layer. Another thing you can try is to soak and drain some vermiculite and with a spoon, smear it on the top over the thinner top vermiculite layer to get a thicker top layer which can add even more water to the cake. That is what this is, a rehydration of the cake. It is the new water that stimulates more fruiting. Also, from the bottom they will reappear growing from the wet vermiculite. __________________________________________________________________
