burning a DVD

can i just go out and buy a DVD burner and then just rent a movie and copy it and keep it forever? or am i missing something?

you need a ripping program to get the encryption off the source movie before you can copy it. And that can be a pain in the ass sometimes!  :crazy2:    Did you really think it was that easy?  :wink:

2. Download DVDDecrypter and DVD Shrink (both are free)
3. Profit

Like bio says you only need dvd shrink. Its easy.

i got a pioneer dvd +/- r(rw) w/ dual layer capability for $59 shipped from newegg.

So, if you have a dual layer burner.....does DVD shrink have the option of eliminating compression so an exact 1:1 copy can be made?

This is a question I've had for some time now. Since I'm somewhat of an audiophile I'd prefer the quality over getting something free.

Yes. Under preferences you can select the target DVD size. You can use dvd-5 (4.7gb) or dvd-9 (8.5gb).
