Decent brand of DVD burner?
    #4869611 -

Hi peoples
I'm about to buy a DVD burner. I want to get a cheap one, but don't want crap. What is a good brand that is still affordable?

Some options I have:

Rioch
LiteOn
Mitsubishi
Samsung
Asustek
Pioneer

Any suggestions much appreciated!

Internal/External?

I have an HP External... I think it is the 630e. It works fine.

Just get on from tiger-direct.com that is cheap. Samsung is on of the largest manufacturers.

If I were you I would pick up a NEC 3540. I have one that is a couple models lower than this one and it rocks. Never had 1 coaster and it reads everything. They also have tons of hacked firmware available for them to unlock certain features or make them burn certain media faster than it should be able to. They are known to be some of the best with the most reliable burns out of any burners available no matter the price. Don't fall for the trap of spending a boatload more on something you can find at a brick and mortar store with a nice package and known brand. Just do a search for this burner on any forums which have knowledgable people about this subject. Anyways, here is a link for one for like $42 free shipping. You can find them for maybe $5 less than this sometimes.

Also, if you don't already know, stick with only Made in Japan blank dvd media. The best ones to buy are Taiyo Yudens. You can get them cheap as hell from the above site.
