Find a copy of DVD X Copy Platinum ver 4. It's no longer made but it's not hard to find using any good P2P.

use dvdshrink - it'll handle 99% of all protected dvds, but every once in awhile you'll come across a dvd that dvdshrink cant handle - for those, use dvddecrypter: http://www.dvddecrypter.com

oh, and dvd x copy sucks compared to dvdshrink. dvdshrink/dvddecrypter are both free and solid applications.

edit: didnt see that you already are using dvdshrink. I recommend using nero with it - it'll automatically de-CSS, compress, and then send the file over to nero to burn. Real easy stuff. check this interactive guide out: http://www.dvdshrink.info/fulldisk_basic.php

it'll explain everything. let me know if you run into trouble - I pretty much have this stuff down :thumbup:

DVD shrink is god. dont trust x copy its some crapy software that some greedy cats made and they got what they deserved by being shut down. never trust non free software

for whatever reason, dvdxcopy dvds do not play in a large number of dvd-players while dvdshrink is very universal. plus, you have more options with dvdshrink & you dont have to do all that keygen/cracking business.

dvdshrink > dvdxcopy

My xbox had trouble playing burned dvds until I got a modchip.

I've never heard that and have never seen it happen. Nor do I personally know anyone who hasn't been able to play a copy made using DVD X Copy.

well, then you're lucky - I've seen it happen twice. and you're likely to encounter this problem as Hollywood copyright protections are updated while dvdxcopy remains the same.

free and often-updated dvdshrink > illegal, outdated dvdxcopy

I'd be interested in trying one. As recently as this week I did a few copies of new releases.

Any you might suggest for a test? (good movies of course)

the problems I've seen have to do with hardware (dvd players) that cannot not read dvdxcopy (but yet read dvdshrink with no problem). There is an incomplete list of dvd players that are not compatible with dvdxcopy dvds - I can post that when I find it. The list is much longer than that of dvdshrink. The list is posted on either www.afterdawn.com or www.doom9.net - I forget.

a wide-range of compatibility is a good thing - that is, if you bring your dvds to friends' houses or plan on getting a new dvd player in the future.

as for exact, big name dvd titles that dvdxcopy cannot de-CSS, I am not sure. You have to keep in mind that Hollywood encryption/copy-right protection technology is ever evolving, therefore the applications that decrypt and remove such protections must also evolve - kinda like anti-virus applications - they must be updated. Dvdxcopy is not longer continued and will not be sufficient. Dvdshrink, on the other hand, will continue to be free and updated. That was the point I tried to make.

plus, I like options. dvdshrink simply provides more.

that is where dvddecrypter comes into play - the 1% of dvds that shrink will not handle. dvddecrypter can handle anything :thumbup: works great inconjunction with shrink.
