i just picked a decent amount of fresh gulf coast strain shrooms yesterday and after leaving them out last night am drying them in the oven right now on the lowest setting possible. will this reduce potency moderatly or just minimally? i didnt have time to go to the store for a drying agent and some went rotten last night so i put them in the oven.

That'll work this time, but using heat will reduce the potency a little (although most drying does.) There are two things you need to avoid when drying: heat and light. Next time, dry them on the grills of a fan for 2-3 days, then bite the bullet and buy some dry right, cover with a layer of paper towels, and put the shrooms on top of that (in some airtight container of course) Grover

The "best" drying method, IMHO, is to fan dry the shrooms first for 24-48 hours. After that they will be about 90% dried. The last 10% can be quickly finished off in a dessicant/epson salt container. This way you end up with cracker dry shrooms in less than 3 days with little to no potency loss. Epson salts must be heated first before using them as a drying method. They can be reused over and over again and, IMHO, are much better than drying with an oven.

ok epsons salt. i also heard that the packet in the bottom of a vitamin bottle can be good if nothing is around, so resourceful you all are. ok i basically put the ones that were about to go rotten in the oven but the others i put in on mesh strainer in a pot with regular salt at the bottom then covered this with saran wrap and a rubber band to keep tight. the strainer has the shrooms suspended the salt. think this will work well? its worked a lil already as far as i can see. peace
