dried shrooms blue in the middle

friend had a few fat asses , about the dia. of a quarter plus a little. drying with a fan for a couple days then he cracked them in half and noticed that they are almost solid blue in the middle. is this normal? thanks, psilocybster..............

No its not normal, however Ive had it happen before on very thick mushrooms. Dont know why it happends

The blue coloring is from the oxidation of the psyicybin(sp?). If you have excessive bluing, you can frown at the fact that your mushroom could be less than 50% as potent as it once was (as an estimate from some of my worst case dry vs fresh potency), but they are okay to eat. The fatter ones usually get more blueing in the middle since it takes longer to dry out, and a little bit of blueing is common, but steps can be taken to minimized the effect - mainly either drying out the mushrooms as fast as possible, or keeping them refigerated.
