Have you looked at grocery stores? Food Lion has them in the same area as bottled water.

For brown rice flour, just buy regular brown rice at the store and grind it up in a blender or coffee grinder. You can also order them online if you don't have any luck with stores in your area. Just do a web search for "canning jars" etc.

i'm in the middle of my first time, so i'm no authority, but i'm using just regular drinking glasses right now instead of jars. just crush two layers of tine foil really really tight over the glass and pretend that's your cap. so punch four holes, cover them with tape, then cover more loosely with another layer of tinfoil to protect from drippage and then sterilize like a jar. working for me so far....

I just want to back Rooster up and say that I know lots of people who use drinking glasses with foil as a lid, myself included. I've got twelve of these on the go at the moment and not one contamination.
If you're in the UK you can pick up 12 glasses for less than a fiver.

regular mouth canning jars work fine- just make sure they have no "shoulder" and are tapered so that the mouth is wider than the bottom of the jar. regular mouth ball 1/2 pints are tapered and the cakes can slide out of them with ease. or, you can use a shouldered jar and simply scoop the colonized substrate out of it and case that (if you do that, you cant use it as a cake, however). HQ likes wide mouth 1/2 pints just cos theyre so cute, but has used reg. mouth ball 1/2's with no prollems.

The shouldered jars are fine for casing. Yes glass jars with a verm barrier and tin foil work well.
