From Philosophy to Spirituality

I'm sure you've already experienced a moment in your life when you suddenly perceive the whole, the totality of an event that was causing you a problem, and in that instant of perception, the problem vanished. The problem permanently ceased to bother you the moment that you clearly perceived it.

In philosophy, its the same thing. You have a problem (a typical philosophical problem would be something like this: "why does something exist instead of nothing?") so you think about it, you discuss it, you worry about it; you put all your intellectual capacities to work to apprehend and seize it.

And at the end you say "there's nothing more that i can do". No one can help you, no gurus, and no books. You find yourself alone face to face with the problem, with no outcome. Having explored the problem to the full extent of your capacities, you let it go. Your mind isn't preoccupied by it anymore, it ceases to wear itself out over it, and you stop saying: "I need to find the answer."

And at that moment, your mind becomes silent, quiet. And it is in this silence that you find your answer.

What does this mean? It means that the mind, after having exercised its thinking ability to its fullest, has arrived to the border of all thought without finding an answer; therefore it becomes silent, but not by tiredness, not by exhaustion, but because having used out all the possibilities for finding the answer, the mind spontaneously becomes silent.

At that moment arises a lucid conscience, a conscience that doesn't choose, that doesn't demand, a conscience that lacks any anguish. And in this state of mind is perception.

Only this perception will solve our problems.

This is how we evolve from philosophy to spirituality.

:rotfl: Not everyone experiences problem resolution in this way. I for instance do not. Yet I'm sure it works for some.

Thanx dr.

This kind of ties in with the theories of consciousness leap going around. See, to me it seems that modern philosophy is at the end of the roll, we've been intellectualizing ideas and concepts for a few thousand years, we've been discovering all the aspects we could ever find to philosophy, and yet, no real answers have come from all of this. Only more questions.

I feel we're finishing our philosophical age and starting a spiritual one.

Yes, the questions will lead to new answers with new questions. The quantity of information increases constantly, while the means of measuring the 'physical world' get more and more exactly, so we get into realms of experiences our ancestors would never have dreamed of.
We have to reorder this information first in a meaningful way, so that new concepts can be approved.
That will happen on a physical, social, philosophical and of course spiritual level, to list only a few
So, I am sure, very philosophical and spiritual times will lie before us.

I wonder what will come after the spiritual age plays out? :mushroom2:
