Quick incubating quesiton.

I tried searching for this, but I didn't come accross anything that answered my question directly.

Can I use a heat pad under a shoe box to keep the incubation temperature at 80 degrees as long as the jars aren't directly over the heat pad?

I tried putting a heat pad under a shoe box to see what temperature I could get it to and the temps are fine...

Could this dry the jars out or anything like that?

It's a reptile heat pad.

Yes it could dry your jars. You'll have to come up with something to set your jars on.

Thanks, so if I put my jars on a towel inside of the shoe box or something like that, I'd be fine?

Yes, that will help. You could try setting the box above your fridge if possible.

I've set them directly on a pad made for people that probably has a lower setting, and dried 4 out of 6 jars. HC is right, either set them on something or maybe put them on a rack above the pad. Good Luck and Peace!

Thanks, I think I will place the box on a cooling rack with the heat pad underneath and the jars on a towel and see if that works out.

I incubate on a electric blanket. It is hooked up to a dimmer switch with a few extra blankets to buffer the direct heat, and blankets on top too. If you have no power control you will probably need a good few blankets since heat pads are surprisingly hot, my 15W was far too hot. Also the temps will change with temp variations in your room so get a thermometer and check each day
