Quick incubator question

I have a simple incubator consisting of a plastic container lined with crumpled newspaper for insulation, with an aquarium heater inside a water bottle as the heat source. My question is, would a smaller or larger water bottle be better? There's room in there for either a 20 oz or a 1.5L besides my jars, and I wasn't sure which to use, or if it even mattered.

This is what it looks like from the outside, just an innocent lego case sitting under my computer desk Holds 8 jars, too!

in a small bucket like that, forget the bottle, just rig something to hold your jars about half way out of the water . read water temp the not air . take the lid off once a day, and fan some fresh air in there .

That's not an option, to fit 8 jars I have to stack them 4 high, it's a fairly narrow container. And my heater has a built in thermostat, so I am measuring the water temp. Even if it was large enough to put the jars in one layer on the bottom half in the water, my heater isn't submersible, so it wouldn't work. And why would I need fresh air? It's an incubator, not a fruiting chamber.

sorry, bucket is smaller then i thought . in that case, i think the smaller water bottle would be better, keep some space between the heat and the jars if you can so heat is spread more evenly .get a thermometer to read air temp, in this case . dont trust the thermostst . and, yes air exchange is importent, even while incubating . see this : http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=Forum2&Number=1226637&page=9&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1
