Spring mushroom hunting in Europe
    #4200680 -

Hi guys!
I guess this question has been asked before, but I don't seem to be able to find much useful info, neither online, nor in any of the books I have, so please bear with me.

I live in Eastern Europe, and wonder what active species are likely to be found here during the spring. The Inocybe genus seems too scary for me to play with, and I feel that Copnocybe Cyanopus is a rather rare species that's nearly impossible to find.
Could you guys suggest what I could look for? Information about what species you have found in Central/Eastern Europe during the spring will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

I suggest hunting in the autumn. You'll find liberty caps, gyms and ps. cyanescens if you're lucky. Spring isn't what you'd call 'prime time' for actives in Europe.

Thanks, ivi, I'll give the Subbalteatus a try.. Will post pictures if I find any...

Koraks, you are right, the autumn is the right hunting season here, but I just can't wait for it, hehe. I've found semilanceatas and some other Psilocybe-like species (other local hunters told me that they are active and OK to eat, and indeed they were), but I couldn't identify them precisely last year.
Will post pictures and info as soon as I get my hands on them again.
As for the cyans, it's doubtful if they grow here natively. P. Serbica is on my watch list, but my guess is that it doesn't grow here either (I live in Bulgaria). I plan a trip to Serbia, though -- I've heard that people pick P. Serbica in the Tara mountain, and from what I've read, this must be a beautiful place to visit, so even if I don't find any, the trip will be worth it anyway.
