Mushroom hunting season is just around the corner here in Australia, so if anyone wants to get together and enjoy a day out just let me know. Or if you have some information on what's happening in your local area post it up.

Hey MagicRooms,
Congrats with finding such splendid shroomies!~
Just a word of advise for you and others collecting shrooms to eat - Clean off the dirt from the stems completely before you put them in bag or whatever u use - With the copelandias i suggest just snipping the base of the stem off with either your thumb or scissors, helps to not get any more sand and dung inside the gills of the mushrooms that may have already gotten up there.
With the cubes, use scissors to cut them off or simply scrape the dung off the bottm of the stem with your thumbnail in a downward scratching motion peel it off.

I would not suggest cutting the Copelandia mushrooms and to avoid handling them as little as possible. Cutting would greatly enhance and cause immediate oxidation and loss of chemical activity. Although I do recommend cutting P. cyanescens which holds its potency very well in all collections. Some people also cut P. cubensis at the base, especially if vericulite is all over them. Of course their is no vermiculite in the fields, but farmers do spray chemicals into the grasses to help the cattle produce more milk or gain more weight.
The bluing, as all know is an indication of the presence of psilocine in the mushroom caused by oxidation after being handled or damaged from touch and/or age.
Many people in Hawaii eat these mushrooms right from a bag with shit still dangling from the shrooms base.
I also have observed many people eat them fresh and it doesn't bpother them and shit is actually pretty clean. I mean many pickers of cubensis have eaten them fresh in the field and not int he cleanest of shrooms.
If you pull the dirt or manure from the shroom you will cause heavy oxidation and lose a lot of the potency of the Copelandia species being collected.
When picked they should be placed in a paper bag or in a small oppen box. They should all be placed in the bag in the same direction as the first mushroom and they should not be shaken or tossed around while walking and colelcting even more specimens since this is a most abundant species when it is in season.
The bag should be carried with the same respect one holds a cup of hot coffee so as to not cause it to spill or drop on the person doing the carrying.
They should be laid out to dry as far away from each other on paper (preferably newspaper) on a shelf high up in your room with air curculation and some warmth.
This will insure protecting their potency in drying them. They should become dry in two to three days and then kept in a paper bag or a jar with a rubber stopper for a top. And then kept out of heat and away from light.

Thank you for the great tips.
I collect all my shrooms in a large flat cain basket and try to get as much mushroom as possible with the least amount of dirt and/or dung. I dust of all the excess carefully and never cut them stems with scissors, I dry as many as I can't handle that day on paper with air flow all around, but I have sometimes used a light bulb for heat when the weather is very damp. I guess now I should stop using the light bulb? I do not use any sprays on my fields so I have no chemical probs. Seasons vary but last year was the best ever with weeks of flushes and not enough spare time to pick them all.
Bring on the Autumn rains.
