I'd imagine, that maybe, if your REAAALLLYY lucky, during the right time of the year, would be able to find some Psilocybe cubensis.... Its gonna have to be warm, wet and humid for a while to see anything. I'd guess more into summer...
Ps. cubensis are mentioned all over these boards, as it is the "common" magic mushroom. They do grow directly off of cow patties in pastureland.

Psilocybe caerulipes(Blue Foot) grows in Kentucky on decayed wood and fruits aug-oct.They can easily be found along wooded streams and rivers. Psilocybe coprophila(Dung loving)fruits june- oct Gymnopilus spectabilis(Big Laughing Gym)fruits aug-oct.on wood. A good field guide will no doubt list more. These are the ones i have found in Ky.

P caerulipes grows in July and August in Ohio. They gerow well in man made environments in residentaial and business areas in well muclch garden beds in parks, office buildings and apartment type complexes. That is how they grow in Ohio, the same way blue ringers and stunmtzii and wavied cap cyanescens grow in the fall.
They come in inthe woodchips from where they grow naturally and when naturally they are not abundant but are in man made environments.
Psilocybe coprophila is not psychoactive.
Big Laughing gyms grow in the fall on dead tree stumps. THey are very bitter and there is no way to desguise the bitter tatse. Your mouth will be puckered up as if you had sucked a dozen lemons fromthje tatse of the Gums. They reemble the honey mushroom Arnellari mellea.

Forgive me bumping this old thread (I have not been on this site in many months).
I just wanted to say that I have found pans in far southern/eastern KY. I have never seen any cubes here, and the pans are very rare.
