brown rice flour question

i went to the local health food store looking for some brown rice flour. I ended up picking up the closest thing i could find but I'm not 100% sure if it is the right stuff. On the box it says "BROWN RICE CREAM". Organic brown rice is the only ingredient in the ingredients section and it says "no added salts or preservatives. It looks like crushed up brown rice. Is the the same as brown rice flour or is brown rice cream something else? Any help or opinions would be great.

when you go, just look for Brown Rice...you turn it into flour

so your saying just get the brownest rice there, yes??
because i was having that same problem down hear, i can t find any rice that has "brown rice" label, so im thinking of just getting the closest thing to brown as posible,,,
would this work????? or no chance??

Any major chain of supper markets carry Brown Rice. Just buy that and grind it down.

i recently inoculated my first set of pf jars. I ground up my own brf. i was wondering what consistency it should be when im done. mine was still a little chuncky. should the consistency of the brf change how much water you use or does it not matter. any help is much appreciated

mine is really powdery just like flour. I'm pretty sure that the Brown Rice Cream will work because it only contains Organic Brown Rice with no salts or preservitives and it is in a powder form. my only worry is that it might be to old and not fresh and maybe crushing my own would be fresher and better for my oh so magic mushrooms!

no u kno wut u should really do is skip the whole pf tek thing and go straight to bulk! spawn some wild bird seed to some horse poo if u wanna kno more about this read about grain substrates and bulk cultivation under the mushroom info menu at the top of the page

Popcorn is prolly the easiest grain. No rinsing or soaking or simmering.

IMO, grains are just as easy, if not easier than the PFtek if you have a PC.

could u still use grains without a pressure cooker? sorry that was a lil off subject but just a first reaction. i think your brown rice cream should be ok by what you said dingleberry. i agree with stonerguy. get whole grain long brown rice and pulvarize it into itty bitty pieces

Yes, you can do grains without a PC. Its more labour intesnive though.

You can use a method called tyndallization/fractional sterilization. Look it up in the glossary or google it.

No! well...not really... you could tyndalize ure substrate but that is much much more risky than PCing. in my opinion a pressure cooker is a must for grains. "Why?", u say. because there a little bastards called endospores which are highly heat resistant and sometimes even survive the PC process. that is why we soak the grains besides water absorbtion but to also germinate and therefore lower their resistance to heat so they can more likely be killed during sterilization. theres a big difference between the 250 degrees at 15 psi and the 212 degrees at atmospheric pressure.
