I cant find brown rice flour anywhere help

can i use anything else along with vermiculite i have a 8 quart bag ol that and i just bought a 70 $ pressure cooker wat should i do now if i cant get the brown rice flour? can i use reg flour i will try bird seed but no car im only 16 wit no drivers license so anysuggestions

Just use brown rice! Grind it up with a coffee grinder, if you have one. If you don't have a grinder, just use the whole rice, I have heard people having success with it.

Rye flour will work as stated in another recent thread. You could also get a bag of brown rice and grind it in a coffee grinder yourself. I have seen some people have moderate success using regular flour, but it is not very nutritious and isn't recommended.

i know i can use rye flour but i cant find where to buy that either so thanks but ya know and ill tyr both reg flour and just reg brown rice

The only thing I have in my cupboard is basmati rice,,would that do for a substrate? It'll be another week before I get the chance to buy any brown rice or BRF.

Yep, I filled three jars with it last night :laugh:  It was a test run for my first go, so I can run through the technique.  But it will be another few weeks before I can afford to buy a hydrometer and thermometer so I dunno if I'm storing the jars in the right condition even!  Like I say, it's just a test run, so if they don't grow then I won't be that bothered, but if they do, great, free shrooms :laugh:  I've got the heating turned on in my kitchen so it's nice and toasty, and a glass of water on top of the heater to keep some moisture in the room as my type of heating makes the room very dry.  I'll let you know how it goes!

im using whole wheat flour and I think I see some growth :smile:
dont use anything else besides brf, wheat or rye flour!!!!!!!!

theres a tek on using Chex in place of BRF here : chex medium

you can find brown rice flour in the cake section of the grocery store.. I know every grocery store carries it, it's just a matter of you finding it. If you still can't find it go and buy some natural brown rice and grind it up in a coffee grinder or a blender.. don't use whole rice, it really doesn't work as well. with those options I gave you there is no way you can't get yourself some ground brown rice flour. unless you don't own a blender or a coffee grinder.

I had the same problem, couldnt find brf nor a coffee grinder. settled for whole wheat flour. do the same

use the brown rice whole. thats how i do it since i burned the motor out on my food processer

I don't know why people INSIST on using anything BUT brf, especially when they're new to this!!!
If you were able to "get" a pressure cooker, then either a supermarket for brown rice (then a coffee grinder) would be your best option. If not, a health food store carries brf.
I'm not bitch'in at ya, it's just that I used BRF the first few times I tried this.

Follow the DAMN directions!!!  :ooo: :shocked: :blush:

the grains are way bigger than the spores and the hard surface prevents penetration. powder on the other hand is microscopic and has no hard surface to block out the spores. also whole grains wont coat the vermiculite so in some areas theres no food so no mycelum growth. has any of you tried whole brown rice and did it work? was it slow?
