is there a replacement for brown rice flour?

I cannot seem to find brown rice flour in my area health food stores. I can find an assortment of other flours though. I was wondering if anyone has had good results with other flours. I tried making my own brown rice flour with a coffee grinder and a food processor, but without success with either. I have found brown rice flour on the internet, but would rather not order it online. thanks for any advice.

I've seen this come up quite often. I had the same problem, but in my local they also carried Organic Rye Flour. That's what I purchased and am currently using on my first cultivation. I've heard of using this, millet, blah blah...so just search in the search directory. There are many substitutes.

I've wondered about rye flour... you can get it pretty easily... but as a commercial flour product I would expect it to contain some kind of preservative to defeat fungal infection... anyone here ever use it successfully?

Apparently, the amounts of preservatives used in products designed for human consumption are quite small, and won't matter in this case. I've used both organic and regular and haven't seen much difference.

You might not be able to find brown rice "flour" in most stores, but every single grocery market i have ever shopped at for this product and to just see and look and see if they have had it has always had "Brown Rice"
You just have to use a coffee grinder or a blender to turn it into flour
To answer your question though... Like stupaod said i would use GHM.

You can get a corona grain mill for about $30 through yahoo shopping... it will grind a pound of rice in a minute... wears you out cranking the thing though

I too couldn't get brf for my first few cakes, I made my own and it worked fine, it was chunky and not very powder like but it worked. I've since found brf in some small spice shops. So if you have any spice shops near by check it out.
