 Yet another casing question

I am using rye as a substrate, It was fully colinized (including innoc time) in 14 days. I shook up the jars and poured into casing containers, For one of the containers I sterilized verm, let cool and put ontop of the broken up rye. The other two I just used wringed out verm (not sterilizing). Now my question is what is the point of seran wrap or foil over the containers? Ive read many different things such as to mist untill you see mycelium growing through the casing layer. But how can you mist if there is foil or seran wrap over the casing? Or is this foil/seran wrap to be removed after a few days, then mist daily untill pins arise. Thanks for any replies.

hi, common casing technique information gleaned from inormation on this site: you cover the trays because you dont want fresh air exchange on the top of the casing layer while its colonizing (fresh air tells it to pin). foil also blocks light- which also "tells" it to pin. pokea few holes in the foil to allow the stagnant air to escape, and check on it til the casing layer is somewhat evenly colonized. then remove the foil.
when you initiate pinning by lowering temps, introducing light, and giving it fresh air exchange (the foil is gone)- thats when to mist lightly.
