Facing your fears
    #4117402 - 05/01/05 01:58 AM (18 years, 10 months ago)

Must I r-e-a-l-l-y go swimming at night in an alligator-infested swamp? Can't I just leave my fears be?

At first I was thinking, "Another crock  thread, from good ole Swampi"....  :smirk:
.
Do they make any kind of Alligator repellent....?    There has got to be something they are afraid of, or maybe an animal that they naturally run from in the wild....?    Maybe alligator blood itself, or maybe that can be used as a lure(from a distance)....(?)
.
Do alligators smell the location of blood in water like fish do...?
.
Prolly~ a good thing to make sure you are not bleeding....!  :geordinod:
I wouldn't wear any alligator boots either, might be bad if one recognizes a long lost brother....

Fear gets a bad name. I like to see fear as a much needed warning signal, alerting me to possible danger so i can react quicker. But irrational fears like that of harmless  insects for example should be confronted and overcome becuase they are as useless as false alarm. If i did'nt have any fears, i would'nt be alive today, in fact i probably would'nt have made it past 5 years old.

You must evaluate your fears and see which of them are rational. It is rational to be afraid of swamp dwellers, especially if you are an old internet nerd like swami. However, it is not rational to be afraid of the number 13 or speaking in public, so those fears need confronting.

They go hand in hand my friend. Its quite obvious that when a fox is chasing a rabbit, the rabbit is SCARED SHITLESS of getting caught. :smirk:

fear and commensence go hand in hand... You tell yourself something for a reason but its up to you to way the choices.

I have a fear of hights at times... DO i really need to climb up that lift tour tripping on mushrooms?

And the aswer was hell why not. I did it it was fun and i lived another day...

Now do people in south america really need to go swimming in that crock infested river, The answer is yes, yes they do... Why cuz the dont have a bathtub and do there fears of getting eaten scare them from doing what has to be done no. Fear nothing, when its ur time so be it, but do what has to be done to survive and that means you have to take chances.

What if there are 13 alligators?

I wouldn't worry, Swam, alligators don't go for old, lethery meat.

Hell, I would wear a leather jacket too - maybe even leather pants, they protect you from road rash....!
Perhaps Diploid has something there with the leather and alligator mix-up....

Just questioning popular cliches/sayings as factual or helpful.

I have untold fears and I doubt facing them would help me in any way except perhaps to land me in an early grave.

I also would not like to walk a tightrope over molten steel...

I have a fear of going to prison and being the new "fish"....

Facing your fears isn't necessary, being aware of them and being able to cope with the situation provided you must encounter it is.
