Standards of the so-called "Normal"

While heavily dosed I came across the thought that What is normal?
My idea of what normal is can vary from person to person and what they thought normal is. So who has the right to make a standard on the outline of a normal human being? My suggestion when I came to think this was look for the dude with his eyes all bugged out petting the carpet. Any thoughts about What is normal? I would like to hear them

Normal is whatever one is and what is like them. I say that sort of jokingly with a twinge of sarcasm.

The dictionary has a different definition for it meaning something akin to whats common among the majority, but in experiential reality, watch how people use the word.

The word is more often used to describe what they are like and whats like them.

You can see some guy shaving his beard with a machete and say, "Dude, that's not normal. Most people use a razor." He can reply, "It's normal for ME to use this."

Both are true statements.

(Picturing a bugged out guy petting the carpet gave me a good laugh. Thanks.)

should be
Standards of A so-called "Normal"
it makes it sound more hypothetical :wink:

There are only two types of people that need to worry about what "normal" is: those trying to conform to it, and those trying to rebel against it. I've been in both positions before, but now I just focus on being me.

I'm "normal", "good", "sane", and I know the "absolute truth".

Now, let's all get together and make a working definiton for everyone on the shroomery boards, as to what all four of these labels mean....

Might be a while, I'll get back to you on that.

Society defines what is "normal." 

Yet what is truly deviant (going against the norm) depends entirely on who you are with and what you are doing.  So someone who is tripping out and petting a carpet could be termed normal as long as he/she was with others who were doing or have done the same thing and not, say, at church.

Although I've never been in a church with a carpet, so I guess that's not really a good example!  :smile:

Yeah.... we just need to get everyone to start acting schizo, and then we can call normal schizo, and vice versa.

In order to compare a word, you have to have something to compare it to.

Normal relative to who? Charles Manson? Me? You? The Board of Education?

Look up the psychological definition of normal, psychology
has not yet decided on what is normal but for now it has a pretty long confusing definition which they are not sure of themselfs.
In essence, a psychologis is the last one who will call someone normal and not normal allthough people usually expect these people
to be the ones who will examine them and say you ar enot normal.

In my own words, normal is that which can function in its environment. More or less acurate interpretation of senses and linking them to memory.
