is the drug war the new gold standard??...
    #3137188 - 09/15/04 02:00 AM (13 years, 7 months ago)

"inflation is when theres too many paper dollars chasing after too few goods"...this definition..however simple..carries a host of bizarre and malignant social ramifications.. how the drug war ties into this will soon become apparent...

a direct corollary to the definition above is that the value of a paper dollar..not backed by gold..silver..etc is a function of a total inventory of goods under US sovereignty...now suppose i spend $5 on a pack of cigarettes...that will become $5 worth of inflation once the cigrarettes are gone..since there is now one pack of cigarettes less to back the value of a paper dollar...the cost of the cigarettes is actually $10..with half of it being subsidized by the taxpayers as currency devaluation...OTOH..with hard currency..i could swap the cigarettes for an ounce of silver..which would still be worth an ounce of silver after ive smoked all the cigarettes...

the example with the cigarettes obviously holds true for alcohol and drugs too...any such depreciational spending is necessarily subsidized by the taxpayers at an amout equal to the purchase price...needless to say..they wont be too happy about it..and in a democracy..they will give their elected govt the power to authourize specific forms of inflationary spending (alcohol & tobacco)..and to deal most harshly that inflationary spending that it does not authourize...

in a classic right-wing race to the bottom..the govts success against drugs drives the prices skyward..which makes them even more inflationary..and that in turn necessitates further escalation...

also of particular interest here is healthcare costs..both drug- and non-drug- related...to wit..if a given patients' labour value cannot recover the medical cost within a given time frame..that again becomes an inflationary tax burden...

under these conditions..what you do is very much everyone elses business...for all the talk about the "dumbing down of america"..americans seem to have a very deep understanding of this concept...by voting for bush..their (not me..mind you) asking their govt to keep you in line..so that you dont tax them w/o representation...and of course the door swings both ways...

but the upshot of all this is that the drug war..and all these other repressive measures..may very well be the currency of our society.. that is..the new gold standard...

"anchor blocks counteract the process of pontiprobation..while omalean globes regulize the pressure"...

I give you permission to do whatever you want with regard to the drug war.

The day will come when, after harnessing the ether, the winds, the tides, gravitation, we shall harness for God the energies of love. And, on that day, for the second time in the history of the world, man will have discovered fire.  -Teilard
