Good rye tek?

#404192 - 09/25/01 11:37 PM (25 years, 29 days ago)

I'm having a hell of a time trying to work with Rye Berries!!

Every jar I prepare is either too moist and starts smelling like beer in a few days or is dry and doesn't do anything.

Does anyone have a good tek for Rye or any suggestions on how to get the moisture balance right?

I even ordered a DB Kit, placed the same amount of innoculate into each and one is beading up water and the other one is dry as a bone!! argh.. I don't think I'm liking Rye...

Could I use the BRF "wafer" tek with the DB kit instead?

thanks in advance for any advice..

I always use The hawks eye tek for rye and it hasnt failed yet... when using quart jars, 2/3 cups rye berries, 3/4 cups water, sterilize at 15 psi for 1 hour... i always do mine this way, then once they get going, you can use colonized rye jars to colonize uncolonized rye jars, thus eliminating the wait time for mycelium germination...
