After aquiring a pressure cooker, I've decided to try my luck with whole grains, so I was wondering if anyone could give me a link to a nice whole grain rye tek. Any help is greatly appeciated, as always.

There are many opinoins on how best to perpare grain for use of a substrate.As long as proper moisture content is achieved they all work. Rye is perhaps the most used and the easiest. Although millet (bird seed), and rice can also be used they prone to clumpimg. Here is a simple way for perparing it.

Frist take your grain and spread it out on a cookie sheet, then place this into a oven thats been set at 350F for 30-45 minutes. This helps in achieving the proper moisture content.

Next place your grain into clean jars (1 cup for quarts, 1/2 cup for pints), and then fill the jars all the way up with hot water. Allow these to sit for 24 hours.

Affter 24 hours drain off the excess water in each jar, and then fill it with cold water. Cap each jar, and shake it to losen up the kernals of grain. Now drain the excess water out agin taking care to remove as much as possible. Cap each jar with a lid that has been perpared, to allow for air exchange.Last cover the top of each jar with a cap of tin foil.

Autoclave in a pressure cooker for one hour, allowing the cooker to cool before removing the jars. Affter removeing the jars shake them to losen up kernals. Allow the jars to sit for at least 12 hours before inoculating them.
