Question about using whole brown rice- Please help

I am going to give whole rye grain/who brown rice a try instead of the normal MMGG (BRF&Verm) method. I have tried this in the past once but the whole brown rice clumped to much or was soggy or something like that. I wondered if anyone could give me some tips for using the whole grain method instead of the BRF methods. I have read that some people presoak for 12-24 hours and then proceed to PC. Others say to simmer the grain first then PC. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. So far the formula I have found is 1 cup rye to 3/4 cup water. I searched the message boards but didn't find anything solid. Thanks all!

Here is the formula I follow. Bring 2 parts water and 2 parts brown rice to a boil. Simmer, covered for 20 minutes. Allow to cool. Stir in 1 part vermiculite. P.C. at 15 psi for 45 minutes for 1/2 pints. One hour for pints. Works like a charm.

The way my friend does it is very easy. She has alot of success with it as well. Just get some whole brown rice. Cook it like the directions say MINUS the butter and salt. When its done, mix it in a large bowl with some vermiculite(enough so that each grain separates easy). Then fill your jars about half full and pressurecook. Thats it. This works very well and is easy to make.:)

Thanks! I wil give it a try that way! It sounds like the vermeculite could solve my problems because it should absorb any excess water.

i hate witty sigs / if anything i say has something in common with reality, this is a merely a coincidence.
