Finch Magic, all the way, baby!!! Cheaper, easier to get water content right, colonizes faster, and is just all around a beter substrate. MAKE SURE YOU STERILIZE IN A PRESSURE CANNER FOR AT LEAST 30 MIN!! NO shortcuts on sterilization with this substrate. If you have a pressure canner, finch magic is the way to grow.

Well if your looking for potency, which your not, go with the brown rice. www.fanaticus.com did a study and found out that it produces more potent mushies, enought to notice a difference. -Mercktrip

Pressure cooker/canner, almost the same thing, canners are usually bigger. If you guys are looking for a monster cooker look no further then http://www.presto-net.com/productinfo/catalog/pressurecanner.html its a 22 quart pressure canner, go search for it on yahoo!, I got one for pretty cheap. It holds 24 1/2 pint jars! Its great. -Mercktrip

Fan out everyday, but before you put anything in there make sure you spray it down with lysol to make sure its cleaned out, get all those corners and sides. Then to be extra careful, while working on the cakes where a surgical mask and gloves and take a shower before with clean cloths. Next time read MMGG before you ask obvious questions. -Mercktrip

For all of you guys out there who are still boiling water to sterilize your jars... if you're looking for a really cheap pressure canner, I'd suggest doing a keyword search on ebay.com for "pressure canner."Right now, there's someone selling new Mirro pressure canners that can do 8 1/2 pint jars at time, for only $20. And he's got twenty of these things ready to sell! Now sure, only 8 jars at a time is kind of a small canner, but if you're looking for a really cheap device you can't beat $20. take care (i love ebay) c

Yes.. pressure canner/cooker is the same thing. Although not to be confused with pressure sterilizer like Fungi Perfecti sells.Merck Trip: As for your post above that PF did a survey that mushrooms grown on rice are more potent then grown on birdseed. BULLSHIT. I've done studies of my own as have friends, and we all conclude just the opposite. But then again.. this is not any scientific proof, just our own experiments and observations. There are a lot more nutriants and a higher nutritional value in grains such as millet and rye then in rice. Its outlined in Stamets book TMC. Could you live on rice alone? yes.. you could, but you would be starving and not as healthy as if someone fed you a variety of grains with other nutriants in it, such as grains used in birdseed. Apply that same thought to the mushrooms. Give them more of a variety of grains and nutriants, and they'll grow healthier. -peace-

Yo Ryche Hawk, ,... How much do you think I could expect to yield from a 1/2 Pint Birdseed cake compared to a Brown rice cake.... and which is quicker on colonization in your opinion?
