Hello there,

Excellent experiment you have going there! It's always good to hear folks putting new (or even not-so-new) methods to the scientific test.

Two questions for you...

#1 - What strain are you growing again?

#2 - Do you have to alter your water to brown rice ratios when you make the substrate, depending on if you're using home-made or store-ground flour? Should you use more or less water if you decide to make your own brown rice flour?

thanks
c

NonFunctional (what a name) - your experiment is spot on. I have the same, slightly less scientific experiment going on now. Myself and a friend together made up 15 pint jars each using the same ingreds (rice/verm) and syringes from the same order (p.cubies), the only difference is I used home ground brown rice and he used the shop's brown rice flower. 20 days later all of my jars have colonized and most are 80-90% done. His batch - 75% colonized 50% done.

I should have said something about the little extras of useing homemade flower. I used straight PF spores for the little test. The only adjustment in water I made was 1 extra tablespoon to the normal amount of water, as stated in the adaption of the MMGG.

Instead of using just Organic Brown rice flour/ vermiculite I whipped up this litte concocted gem of nutrient dense mush food.

1. Org. B rice flour (whole foods)
2. Org. Golden flax seeds (whole foods)
3. Org. Hard Wheat Berries (brookshires)
4. Org. Yellow corn flour (whole foods)

I ground up the Org flax seeds in a coffee grinder along with the Org wheat berries(whole grain), then added all of the 4 ingredients in one big ziplock for future use.
For the substrate I mixed around 3 cups of vermiculite to maybe 3/4 cup of the mush flour. I then added 1/2 cup of whole quinoi grains.
This seems like a very nutritious substrate to me, although I could be off. Its my first time using this so Ill post my results ......Its Day 3.
bye kiddies
peace a' mush

flower? really brown flowers grow in your buttocks dont they. i have a suggestion for you: don't grind up the brown rice with your blender, it will be more airy which makes it colonize faster. 12 days tops if you do everything right

Let me get this straight, DON'T grind in a blender because it will be more airy which makes it colonize faster? I don't get it. Why would you NOT want it to colonize faster? I want it to colonize as fast as it can and I prolly speak for everyone else when I say that. And about the flowers growing in someones ass, just wipe your ass every now and then and that wont happen

this reminds me of Those antibiotic hormone chickens that are all fat and deformed laying on tables. Awaiting the slaughter, then On out to the ole luby's resteraunt.
That may be putting it a little extreme(okay it is), but I was under the impression that the potency of psilocybe mushrooms can be heightened with the right nutrients. So I just want to know If anyone who uses the staight finch or whole brown rice tek , has been pleased with the potency.
Just a thought .
Im all down for quick colonization too. Id just want to have the healthiest, most robust, and most potent shroom possibly. Im sure alot of others feel the same.
Hey I'll just kick myself in the head for the heck of it. yay !
