Hello everyone. I have a small but persistent problem. Every time I look at a Tek they always have vermiculite in them. Is there any possible way to have a PF Tek without using vermiculite? What are some other common subs for it? TIA

Although I dont see a need in you hounding me I'm not going to respond negativly to your post. I'm sure nOObs ask this question often but sometimes they need to be answered to keep nOObs on track. I did a search for vermiculite substitutes and they either had something to do with PF cakes or they leaded me to a dead end.

p.s. sorry if I irritated you on the subject at hand.

Home Depot, Lowes, Hardware stores, garden centers, nurseries.

You can find Vermiculite in Georgia...I know several guys from there.

It's the spores that are going to be harder to come by.

Dude its really worth it to go out and find the verm. The stuff isnt that tough to find. I got mine from Agway. If you need to just order it off the net but im sure you can find it at any gardening store near you.

Here is a tek called Zila's Brown Rice (not brown rice flour) cake TEK

I have never tried it my self but if you cant get any vermiculite then its worth a shot.

there are also a lot of greenhouse supply companies and American Vermiculite in
marietta, Georgia-Pacific also sells it for textured ceilings and also check
grace construction products

wow, thats the help I needed! I cant believe that I have vermiculite already! I have textured ceiling treatment at my dads house but they said it was popcorn, I called up dad and he said it was also used for gardening stuff too. Great, now I need spores and BRF, I'll be going to Super Walmart tomorrow to check for BRF. I already have a PC that my mom gave me, and I have plenty of jars (mom also cans fruit...ahh, shes the best). I think if I find BRF I'll just start out doing a simple PF Tek, that is if I can get spores :X

Your best bet for BFR is to look around at local health food stores. That is where youll find the organic rice. It isnt expensive at all either. I wouldnt trust walmart, but thats just me.

Hey, I was just playing with ya. Was actually poking a little fun at Scatmanrav. Didn't give you a better ansewer cause you said you looked for vermiculite and couldn't find any and were asking about substituting it with something else, and I didn't know of anything you can use instead of vermiculite. Didn't irritate me, I just couldn't ansewer your question. Good Luck.

Its all cleared up HippieChick, nothing against you I just read your post the wrong way. Yeah, I cant get spores though mailorder here :X but I'll be on the lookout for some shrooms in our field. I guess I'll have to get more knowledge, as I'll have to collect my own spores. Thanks for the info about the BRF, I'll check a health food store thats nearby also. oh, BTW Shorty, your pipes are awesome!

moms rock! check the bag and make sure its only vermiculite, some are premix and
others are not, you may alos want to check companies that do insulation because
is also used for that as well

yeah its a green bag and it says ceiling treatment on the bag and at the bottom of the bag it says vermiculite. Looks like I'm good to go! I have a small O/T question though...How do you pronounce Psilocybe? hehe
