straight vermiculite casing

What are your opinions on straight verm casing?
How will yields compare to other mixes?
Is it less likely to contaminate

I agree with kykeon except for likeliness of contamination.

there has beeen a gr8 discussion in the past over to if VERM can be the cause of contaminants.

personally, i think that by adding HOT BOILING water to the verm, letting it cool and then use it, there is no chance of any contams DUE to the verm.

Vermiculite is in fact a rock; so no alive organisms can eat that and grow.

IMHO

Im a newb startin myself, im going to try brf / verm cakes and then try a number of things to just try.... Just so I get my foot in. Im going to try...

1) straight verm casing with 2 colonized cakes

2) 2 normal brf / verm cakes

3) 2 double end verm /brf cakes

4) 2 verm / brf brf cakescut in half.

Im going to be using perlite with water in my terrarium, then wire above it.
I figure its a good way for a newb to learn alot of basic methods. And I can try and figure which one works the best and yields what I like. Let me know if you guys like my idea.

You guys do realize the the point of adding verm to the top of PF cakes is to filter contams? Wouldn't that lead to the assumption that verm casing would not contam so easily?

Verm would contam just as easily as any other water reserve. Verm is non-nutritious so I don't see how it could be more a vector of contamination than any other non-nutritive substance, ie. coco coir, etc.
