COME ON PLEASE GIVE ME A HAND
I know that cakes true blue when they are brusied but now that this one cake is pinning and has 2 wonderful looking mushies on it I'm concerned about it turning blue. I haven't seen it in any of the pictures on this board or anywhere else. I haven't moved them why is it now blue?

and as far as the other cake shrooms are growing at the bottom which i know is normal using perlite (cakes are sitting directly on the perlite) they are about 1/2 an inch but the stems are a dark brown color with stems that are fatter then the heads. Also the stems are a dark tan almost brown color with myceluim growing part-way up the stem.
I'm i doing something wrong or what? Is this normal? OR am i freaking out for no reason.
i've invested a lot of time money and effort into this any help would be greatly apreciated

Hey there,

Well, I am a newbie too... however, I have heard that when your cakes turn blue, it is a pretty sure sign that they are getting too dried out. They need some more water! You might want to look into the straw-tek for a simple way to rehydrate them:
http://www.fanaticus.com/7cakes.htm

Basically, you get a plastic straw (say, from McDonald's) and cut it in half. Don't just snip it straight across though; cut it on an angle so that it comes to a really sharp point. Then, stick this in the center of the cake, and fill it with water every once in a while. I'm not exactly sure how far down into the cake you should stick the straw, but I think that 1/2 to 1 inch would be okay. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong...

Also, another fairly easy way to get your cakes some more water is to perform the PF double-ended casing tek... check it out at:
http://www.fanaticus.com/casing.htm

Basically, you just put a thin layer of moist vermiculite on the top and bottom of the cake...

good luck,
c
