Diabetes is essentially a disease of physical degeneration, due to some part of the digestive tract failing to function properly. First you must ascertain the cause. In Diabetes Mellitus, starchy foods turn into sugar in the body, and nature is trying to rid the body of excess sugar. It is generally understood that diabetes has to do with the functioning of the pancreas, just under the outlet of the stomach. However, it is found the pancreatic duct is not the only organ responsible for this condition.
One of the causes of diabetes is an unbalanced diet, largely consisting of sugars, fats, and starches, which are to a great extent denatured. Resulting from a large consumption of meat, sugar, white flour products, coffee, etc.. diabetes has become a common disease in the US, and it will continue to increase as long as people partake in artificial sweets, white flour products, cola, coffee, alcohol, dark tea, and all denatured foods and harmful drinks. Avoid these foods, as well as those prepared with baking powder & soda, which decreases the activity of pancreatic secretions which the body uses to digest proteins, fats, & carbohydrates. The pancreas is one of the most important organs of digestion.
Symptoms: (Not all symptoms are present in every case) Constant hunger, frequent urination, great thirst, progressive weakness, loss of flesh, inordinate appetite, mental depression, dyspepsia, & dry, red tongue. The patient is irritable and morose.
Treatment: There is not a known remedy which will cure diabetes without a reformation along the lines of what caused it. Generally, there is some colon trouble, therefore a high enema should be taken daily (or at least 2x a week) with either powdered burdock root, yellow dock root, or bayberry bark. A herbal enema will assist greatly in cleansing and healing the colon. Pour 4 quarts of boiling water over 1 tablespoon of the powdered herb, stir well, and use all 4 quarts after it has cooled off. This should be done at the first stage of treatment.
Daily hot baths, followed by a vigorous cool towel rub is very beneficial for not only washing toxins from the skin but also to increase circulation. Lying in a tub of hot water for 1/2-2 hours whenever possible will help greatly to eliminate the sugar and waste matter from the system. Excellent results are obtained by having the patient in water as hot as they can stand comfortably, and having the patient drink a hot tea made from either red raspberry leaves, blueberry leaves, dandelion root, or pluerisy root, while they soak in the tub. After soaking, follow with a very brief cold shower to rinse, and finish with a vigorous towel rub.
The occasional salt glow is very beneficial and is highly recommended to increase circulation and remove dead skin so the pores are open and the skin more active. Wet 1-2 lbs of common coarse salt with water, wet the patient and they should be standing in warm water up to their ankle. Starting with the arms, apply the wet salt and rub vigorously until the skin is aglow. Do this to the whole body and rinse clean.
Hot fomentations, followed by a brief cold application, should be applied along the spine, also over the stomach, spleen, & pancreas daily, right after waking if possible. Do not fail to take the morning bath, rubbing with a cold wet towel after and then a dry towel vigorously. (Fomentations are basically a clean, disinfected sheet (boil it).. folded many times to make a strip of cloth many layers thick. approx 6-8" wide and as long as needed. After folding, hold the edges of the cloth and dip the middle portion in boiling water, let excess water drip off and then wrap this in a wool or similar blanket.. this is your hot fomentation.. lay on the bare skin for 10-15 minutes and then sponge off with cool water after removing.) Repeat several times if possible.
The bowels must be kept loose, with at 2-3 good eliminations each day. This is imperative to cure diabetes. To not take harsh laxatives, use natural herbal laxatives in tea such as: Slippery elm(recommended), Golden Seal(recommended), Hyssop, Sage.
Diet The general health must be improved if the patient expects to recover. Correct the diet, the main cause of diabetes. There are many herbs which have efficacous medicinal propeties which may be used, and will greatly aid the vegetables and fruits in supplying the needed alkaline elements for the body. All foods that can be enjoyed in their natural states are best adapted for normal nutrition.
Meat of all kinds should be excluded from the diet, and replaced with unroated nuts. Milk and eggs should be reduced to a bare minimum.
Stimulating foods that are forbidden: refined sugars, pepper, mustard, vinegar, tobasco, gravies, pickles, fried & greasy foods, white flour (& white flour products), coffee, black tea, oysters, clams, crabs, chicken, etc. Avoid starches and sugars, except natural sweets such as that of the juice of ripe fruit. Vinegar, pepper, mustard, other condiments, etc.. irritate the digestive system and harms the organs. Replace any vinegar with lemon juice..
Bran, oatmeal, & slippery elm(as an herbal tea), are all especially beneficial foods in diabetes. Another very wholesome alkaline food, high in life-giving properties is the soybean.
The following list of food is all very good for eating with diabetes: Greens of all kinds, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Watercress, Kale, Cucumbers, Okra, Asparagus, Onion, Lentils, Young Peas, Ripe Black Olives, Beets & Beet Tops, String Beans, Carrots & Carrot Juice, Celery, Spinach, Eggplant, Radishes, Endive, Parsnips, Lima Beans, Soymilk/cheese (any soy product), coconut milk, whole wheat zwieback, cream, potatos (with skins), peanuts (unroasted), almonds, walnuts, pecans, brazil nuts.
Do not eat peanuts that have been roasted, or peanut butter made from roasted peanuts. Raw peanuts and raw peanut butter is very good. Avocados are also excellent in diabetes, and when ripe they are almost a specific.
Use all kinds of fresh fruits that are ripened on the tree, in the sun, such as: grapes, strawberry, oranges, apricots, blueberries, peaches, pears, apples, pineapples, lemons, grapefruit, cherries, currants, raspberry, limes, etc.
- Fruit should never be sweetened with cane sugar. All sugar syrups are harmful. Natural sugars as contained in fruits are beneficial. If sweetening is desired one may use malt sugar or honey.
- Eat food raw as much as possible. Or if cooking use little water, steaming or pressure cooking whenever possible. If boiling use just enough water so as not to throw any away with those precious vegetable juices.
- Do not eat fruits and vegetables in the same meal. Eat as many raw fruits and vegetables as you like. And don't peel those carrots and potatos and such. Wash, but don't peel.
- Deep breathing and vigorous outdoor exercise must be taken every day as condition of the patient permits. do some stretches, walk uphill, etc.. get plenty of sun and exercise and fresh air.
Diabetes Insipidus requires the same treatment as Diabetes Mellitus. If kidneys and nerves are in bad condition, use one of the following herbs: cornsilk, fennel, scullcap, whild cherry bark, cubeb berries.
DO NOT EAT meat of any kind. Absolutely no vinegar, mustard, sugar, fried & greasy foods, pastries, coffee, black tea, white flour products, baking soda products, animal milk, black pepper, most condiments. (Use helpful medicinal herbs for spices and flavoring: parsley is great, cayenne pepper is amazing, garlic, thyme, rosemary, basil, mint.. all good)
DO EAT LOTS of raw fruits and vegetables. Figs, dates, apples, grapes, oranges, peaches, lemons, cherries, blueberries, pineapple, pears, etc. All greens, avocado, cucumber, carrots, onions, celery, asparagus, potato(with skin), peas, sprouts, beans of all kinds, eggplant, parsnips, cauliflower, broccoli unroasted- peanuts, walnuts, pecans, almonds, brazil nuts, etc Oatmeal, Bran, Wild & Brown Rice, Whole grains: bread, whole grain zwieback, soymilk, coconut milk, grape juice, orange juice, carrot juice, grapefruit juice.
Drink plenty of fresh clean water every day. 8 glasses. You know. Do not drink with meals.. drink between meals with an hour or two time.
Never eat green bananas.. wait until they are ripe with black spots before eating. (Green bananas are very high in starch, when they turn ripe the black spots signifies the starch being converted to easily digestible grape sugars)
Make zwieback from whole grain bread by toasting in the oven on low until dry and light brown.. this converts the starches to dextrose.
Eat fruits and veggies raw as much as possible. Do not peel potatos, carrots, etc. (Most of the vitamins are right under the skin) (and potato skin is very alkaline.. removing the skin causes you to be eating almost pure starches..but with the skin is very healthy)
Beneficial Herbs Golden Seal(recommended), white pine, blue cohosh, saw palmetto berries, wintergreen, uva ursi
Essential herbal teas (Drink one or more of one of these herbs 2-3 times a day) - Blueberry leaves, dandelion root tea, and/or red raspberry leaves.
- Herbal enema of bayberry bark, yellow dock root, or burdock root. (if not daily at least 2x a week) - Hot bath soak with hot herb tea. Followed by quick cold rinse and vigorous towel rub. A thorough massage after the bath is ideal. - Must move stools 2-3 times a day, can be aided by herbal laxative teas like slippery elm (which is also very cleansing and nourishing to the body), hyssop, sage, and/or golden seal tea. - Deep Breathing, Good outdoor exercise, sunshine, fresh air - 8 cups of water a day - herb teas 1 hour before meals and before bed. - Fomentations on spine, followed by cool sponging, then repeat a hot fomentation across stomach and chest (stomach, liver, spleen)

Great guide. As a person knowing people with diabetes and seeing the restrictions and risk associated with it, I am trying to become more conscious about what I eat. My diet is lots of starch: bread, pasta, cereal, etc. Some of it is whole wheat flower, but not all. Seeing this has inspired me to try harder to eat a balanced diet..

If you have a high starch diet you can help balance it out by eating foods high in alkaline content.. greens, beans, fruits, soups, juices, etc. Alkalis help neutralize the acids, and will help the body heal and regain it's natural chemistry.
I have spoken with Rick Simpson, a man in Macaan, Nova Scotia that discovered that THC kills dying and mutating cells. This action cures cancer. You can go to his site here
He has told me that Hemp Oil rejuvenates the body's organs and that after taking the oil for a few days blood sugar levels stabilize to 4.0-7.0 and stay within that range. I have yet to confirm this but I'm pretty sure Rick wouldn't make that up for some reason. If there is any diabetics that could produce hemp oil, do it and see if this works. I am in the process of growing a plant to make my own hemp oil.
