Gladware for WBS......Suggestions? **pic**

After gathering my materials I came back and prepared to PC my own WBS substrate for the first time. Here is a Glad container that I'm using. I drilled a little whole for air xchange/ inoc. point and put some poly-fill in it. I tried to put tyvek on the top but the lid wouldn't close. So now I'm just gonna put some foil over the top of the lid and put in PC. Nothin' fancy...think it will work?

yeah it will work. its a good call. You need to seal that lid though so it doesnt come off in the pc or when you shake it. take a roll of plastic wrap and cut the tube in 2 inch sections. Take the mini roll and wrap the band of the lid a few times. I dont know if the plastic wrap is pc-able. The lid should stay on in the pc so you could use the plastic wrap or some duct tape after it cools. Good call on the tray. You could just add casing once it colonizes and you have your trays.

hmm..so no tape or such b4 the pc. guess i'll remove the tyvek, or i wonder if there is some kind of light glue i can use. I'll go ahead and go without the tyvek on this one and just put some foil over the top. The lid is on pretty snug...see how it is when i take it out.

I do, and it will.
The lid, ALWAYS pops off. Cover with tin foil too. You can use 100% silcone to glue the tyvek on. I prefer tyvek to polyfil in these cases. Polyfil works too though, its a personal preferance.

Pops off?
Wouldnt it cause a neg. pressure (canning) inside the container, forcing it on?...And the hole in the lid should keep it from trying to pressurize...Hmmm...maybe the sides on the container collopse a bit and thats why it pops off?

on the silicon tip. will try that in conjuction with the polyfil. I put foil on the top...we'll see if the lid stayed on...it's in the PC cooling down at the moment. When I put the container in it floated so I put a couple of empty jars on top. Does it really matter if it floats or not?

let it cool all day. it may be hot inside. i use five holes for five inoculation points. cover it with one layer of foil and pc for 90 min. didnt have a problem with the lids. I did have a problem with full colinization though. I solved this problem by taking all of the grain and putting the cake in a zip lock bag sealed it and broke the grain up. Then i put it back in the container and continued to incubate. Finished up in no time at all. I've cased my little gladewares with peat and verm. should be pinning in 2 to 3 days. this is my first grow on straight rye. From day one i've gone bulk straw. i'll let you know how it turns out compared to the bulk tray growing beside it.

I wouldn't fruit in that container. Even if you cover the sides with something opaque, the sides of your cake will still get some light because the plasic acts like a fiberoptic cable. And shrooms that grow on the side of trays are a pain in the ass to harvest, especially rotting aborts.

since this is my first try at gladware's im bound to find a couple of problems. next time around im goin gto wrap the outside if the container with foil to prevent light from getting in. i think this will be the easiest and cheapest way to solve the problem.

not pops off becasue of the pressure. I meant the heat could warp the lid away from the dish

Those are made of PE (Pollyethelene), which melts above 320F... You will have many good uses with it, mine work well. (Same ones only flat and square.)
