Da Vinci Code
    #3928502 - 03/16/05 11:23 PM (19 years, 16 days ago)

Just saw on Inside Edition that some dude high in the church that is rumored to be the next pope said about The DaVinci Code:

"You can find that book everywhere, and people may believe those fairy tales are real"

I was confused as to whether he was talking about the Bible, or The DaVinci Code

you may be refering to remarks recently made by Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, of Genoa. He told vatican raido that the runaway success of the novel is proof of "anti-Catholic" prejudice, and that it shows "the truth" that anti-Catholicism is the last acceptable prejudice.

Here read the whole article:

Cardinal: 'The Da Vinci Code' Proof Of 'Anti-Catholic' Prejudice

POSTED: 8:34 am EST March 16, 2005

VATICAN CITY -- If you aren't among the millions who have already read the popular book "The Da Vinci Code," an Italian cardinal hopes you'll neither buy it nor read it.

The book by Dan Brown alleges that Jesus married Mary Magdalene and has descendants. That has outraged many Christians and his ideas have been dismissed by historians and theologians.

Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, of Genoa, who previously was a high-ranking official of the church's office on doctrinal orthodoxy, told Vatican Radio that the runaway success of the novel is proof of "anti-Catholic" prejudice, and that it shows "the truth" that anti-Catholicism is the last acceptable prejudice.

Bertone said he wonders what the reaction would be if there were a similar book "full of lies" about Muhammad or Buddha.

Yes, that was the cardinal I was referring to. I find it laughable that he'd say that about a historical fiction work when it applies to the very book he bases his life on. I don't know how they work things over there in the Vatican, but they obviously have never heard of American free speech.

I don't think the bible is "anti-catholic" or "full of lies". Do you?

"You can find that book everywhere, and people may believe those fairy tales are real"

Not sure what his problem is as "The Da Vinci Code" is presented as fiction.

Exactly. I haven't read DVC, but I believe somewhere near the front the author states that it is historical fiction. There are some historically accurate things, but it is meant as a fiction work. On the other hand, the Bible is presented falsely as an infallible work of "god" and makes no mention of fiction. False advertisement? I think so...

He aint messing around either. Have any of you been in any nice hotel lately. The drawer next to the bed has the bible beside the Da Vinci Code. In the more upper class hotels its just the da vinci code.

RAWR, really, when this happens thats when catholism has become completely unpopular. I mean shit the books are still next to nightstands in millions of hotels, and this is even after a sex scandal that makes Micheal Jackson look small time.
meh!

It is good fiction...but fiction. I have seen articles where (fundamentalist) devout Christians "debunk" the "Da Vinci Code", but you can't debunk fiction.
