How do you do it? Just stick it in there loose, with the jars? DO you need to put it in something else?

what the hell are you talking about?!
spore syringes come sterile. If it is home made, the just heat the needle red hot with a lighter. and let it cool.

if it is brand new then you don't need to sterilize it. if it is used, then you should sterilize it.
use boiling water for the needle and the microwave for the syringe.
then suck of the HW and innoculate

You can either wrap in tinfoil and boil for an hour, wrap in tinfoil and pressure cook at 15PSI for 20min, or suck up some water and microwave on high for 4 minutes. All these methods should turn a used, possibly dirty into a clean, reusable syringe. Dont forget to flame the needle before sucking up or squirting out any solution.

my neighbor's cat often uses my pressure cooker to sterilize syringes, which she puts in a quart jar with bleachwater in it.
the heat distroys the bleach for the most part.

Microwave is the best I think. just fill syringe with water and also put a small jar of water and a cover plate for the jar. Heat on high till you hear the syringe hiss loud it will hiss out the needle end remove and put the cover on the needle. Then heat the water in a jar to boiling with a cover plate on it, around 5 minutes on high.remove plate and suck hot water into syringe and purge and repaet a few times .Suck it up one last time and fill syringe and put needle cover back on. I like to soak the neddle cover in alcohol too just to be on the safe side.I have never had a problem with a contamnated syringe yet using this method, and have made around a dozen syringes from prints:)

be sure not to put any metal in the microwave (ie the needle) :)
you can boil some h20, suck in and squirt out a few times, keep 10-12 cc in there, and drop the whole syringe, needle, and boiled water combo into a pot of boiling water as well.
