i just made up 4 jars using standard pf tek, to the tee. inoculated wiht b+. steamed for 2 hours in a regular pot. i just read a document on here that says at my elevation (7,000ft) i need to acheive 23psi for sterilization... is this wholly true? will i need a superduper pressure cooker or can i just cook longer?

Yeah, i had seen the one, the other thanks for fidning, next time i will search a few different things.... one thing though, if by chance i do have contam problems (just inoculated last night) and through deduction decide they are casued by sterilization problems, would this method be ok? Making PF jars as usual, but instead of capping them right away, put saran wrap all over the top, then microwave for X minutes (10, too long, will it dry it?), and while that is microwaving, clean the lids with like alcohol or bleach or both, then when it comes out of the micro, put the lid on carefully and quickly, while leaving saran wrap on... just inoculate through that. i got that idea while sleeping in my bed last night

well, fuck that shit, steaming them just kinda sucked, pot was small too... so i splurged 30 bucks and got the presto 6 quart pressure cooker from walmart. it does 15 psi. i just now tried that fucker out, and holy living fuck, i didn't think 15 psi was so much pressure!!! i took the little regulator off the top after i took it off the heat, just to see how much pressure was actually in there. needless to say i'm impressed. also, in the book it said to increase cooking times for elevation. well, it was like 5% every 1,000 ft after 1,000ft elevation. so for me at 7,000 i add 25%, so if it's like 20 minutes to sterilize at 15psi, i should do it for 25 mintues. simple enough, sorry for being such a slack ass and trying to weasel through

dont write such things!
well, the buying of a pc is mostly recommended. u will realize that everything will be cool from now on. sterilization on pc is cool not only because of temp, but also because of pressure. this method ensures that there is nothing in there to antagonise your spores
GOOD LUCK!!!
