Contribute Something Original!
    #3919412 - 03/15/05 01:43 AM (19 years, 18 days ago)

The Bible, Zen teachings, Casataneda, McKenna, Leary, Aristotle, etc., are all worth debating, but why are most posts about someone dead or something borrowed?

Tell us about your PERSONAL experiences/revelations of wisdom and insight without referencing ANYTHING else.

TIA

is this, like, a proposed mandate for S&P in its entirety? or just for within this thread?

Everything that is known is manufactured by our previous associations and our perceptions gained from previous efforts. Makes one wonder if their is any originality... beyond how we project what we know/do.

He who maketh the thread and proposeth the idea... should posteth first.

Shit

I totally agree with you, I like to hear everyones take on it all.. every'one' is influenced and the biases people have is usually obvious but everyone is tapped into the infinite and we all know somewhere in the layers of your 'mind' the ultimate truth

I was thinking of posting something about the Age of Specilization... so I searched the archives for "specialization" and found this.
...
Then I noticed that it's weird how things are repeated around here...

isbe

I can attempt to explain - (edit: what is below is not the explanation)

- though I doubt there is anything that is standalone original. We all build on our precursors ideas and take them on. We add our own twists and our own insights. Just as they did.

Perhaps describing what we experience can be in a sense original, yet even that is bound by the perameters of our humanity or the state we achieve - the same as for all others, and therefore unoriginal.

Mankind is like a arrow and historical knowledge is its bow, a bow where it pushes the arrow back into the past, and let it go into the future.
Who's the archer you may ask ? We don't know, as the tip of the arrow is always in front of him. But remember this, the closer the tip is to the archer, the further and faster the arrow will fly.
A question subsists though, where did he point us to ?

Personaly I have never been advocating any of the fixed traditional teachings, I have always been talking about my own thoughts.

The partial reason for that is because I don't know much about any of the religions exept christianity, and I'm not a christian either.

I'm sure we all talk our own thoughts out, you are right in this regard.

Perhaps we need to give ourselves more credit.

Well alright. Recently I was pretty damn high and I got one of those moments I love so dearly where I get some crazy theory in my head and just go with it. I was thinking about how the senses are the only thing that can give something a conscious state. Animals and humans have senses so they are aware of themselves, due to them being aware of their surroundings around their selves.

Then I started thinking about the brain, and how the perceived physical objective reality is not neccessarily what the physical reality is, if there even is one. Maybe our brains (or whatever it is we exist as) is just creating the 3D environment around us based on the senses we were given. And we have gravity and solid object and all the physical laws we experience because they are just interpretations that our brain lays down so that we can exist in whatever actual reality there is.

Holographic universe perhaps?

I thought this stuff was fun. And I've heard holographic universe before. And I'm sure this stuff has been talked about. But it's not everyday stuff.

Neuroscience and crazy reality theories = fun

P.S - Descartes had a pretty great theory. He said the soul linked with the body through the pineal gland. The gland that is the part of the brain in the very center and lacks a symmetrical equal. The center of the brain, the third eye. The gland that excretes DMT. Perhaps the secret to higher consciousness?

Who knows.

ps - a common hindu belief is that the spirit enters the body at the little knob at the centre back of one's head (can't remember the name). I often wonder if it's related.

this thing about the brain and the senses is very interesting, but what I really wonder is what is in fact a plant's perspective, how do plants experience the world?

the other day I was reading about a symbiotic relationship between a particular tree species and ants. the ants ended up abusing their hostage by preventing the tree from forming flowers and reproducing, but the tree found a solution making the ants nests fall freeing some branches for flowering.

how do trees perceive reality and find solutions for their problems?

Have you ever seen a vine grow in stop frame?

It will test out its options and choose routes for growth. Quite amazing and fully aware/conscious through it's senses of touch and phototropism.

"Ren? Descartes was a philosopher who believed that he had found the exact point in the brain where the body and soul meet. Rather unromantically, the structure he chose was the humble pineal gland.

"As the author of a popular textbook on the subject dryly notes, however, 'this now seems unlikely because pineal tumours do not cause the changes one would expect to find associated with distortion of the soul.'"
