So we've got modern philosophy, modern art etc.., but what i was wondering is, did the people in the Medieval Times, for example, call their philosophy and their art "modern"? Or did we start qualifying stuff as "modern" in the 20th century only?

Modern really means of the MODE (In the sense of the Statistical Average MODE)

So I assume at all times everything not old is Modern.

You don't get Modern Tables, Cups and Plates for instance. They've been around for centuries. Really all you get is a new Modern DESIGN for a Cup, Plate, Table, Bowl etc.

This is of course assuming the word Modern is not a Modern word. (nice bit of word-play me thinks!)

The interesting question is: At what point did the Modern become the Medieval, or Classical, Baroque, Neo-Classical etc?

I suppose the answer to this is, whenever someone started classifying periods of history (so I assume fairly recently). Still an interesting twist to your question (me thinks also ).

Well that's my acre of spanked bananas! :stoned::mushroom2:

We ultimately live in a fractal universe, all parts reflect the infinity of the whole. So why do we maintain that time be any different?

Welcome to 4 my dimensional thoughts!

(Turkish Delight is neither Turkish, nor delightful. So where's the name from?!)

What I find interesting is that now you have things which are considered "post-modern."  Shouldn't that mean that they haven't happened yet?
