to write suicide notes now.  I had a really nasty one around Christmas.

We have been in contact with this user and it certainly does not appear that he harbors any malicious intent towards our community nor its members. In fact, he has contacted us about certain issues which he has believed may be potential problems for us, to which we have responded accordingly. In this way, he may be considered more of an asset than a threat and I for one will not ban him until there is evidence warranting such action.

Not all cops are bad cops.

Most communities this size have at least one cop.

You know, I agree.

But, the Admins make the rules, and they can interpret them (or ignore them) as they wish. We are not so lucky.

They own the place, but to set your mind at ease, the Admins are also, responsible for most site related trouble.

Thanks for letting me know how your thread works.

I was under the impression it worked like all the other threads in this Forum.

I mean you said this thread is for the Admins, and the general concensus (everybody else)... then you started making some shit up about Mods trading deals with cops. That was either a poor attempt at a quasi-flame, or a demonstration of poor reading comprehension skills.

If you could read this thread again, you would see it was the Admins, and not the Mods, that traded deals. You would also, learn the Admins can interpret the rules as they desire.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'd like to get back to the thread you started.

in the legal sense i am very intreested in which legal issues were brought about? im not sure if these are public or why they havent been posted. however having taken several business law courses i would be interested in hearing them, anychance you could post them or pm me the pertinent issues?

after reviewing all of black sheep's posts and understanding the legal issues quite a bit better i can say that what he did was in the bset interests of this site, and that he has infact probably done more than most of us to help support this place.

this man, is a valuable resource to the comunity and we are lucky to have him here watching our backs.

Hey 40, I do understand your concern but I don't think it requires action at this time. I'd be much more concerned about any cops on this site who never announce their presence. TheBlkSheep seems to have good intentions and if he has a professional interest in the Shroomery or just enjoys its atmosphere I say he's welcome. I really don't think he's out to bust anyone, hell his advice is probably more likely to keep someone from getting busted. Maybe if you get to know him a little better you won't feel as nervous.

Also thanks for pointing out that section of our disclaimer. There is no "Internet Privacy Act" (Snopes) and I was surprised to see it cited. I've removed the passage in question.

But seriously, what will the guy accomplish if he is here to bust someone? I've said it before, there are no kingpins on the Shroomery. For the 25% that might actually grow mushrooms, he would get a closet with about 12 jars (probably unfruited) in it, and a large defecit in his budget for the year.

Could the admins share what we've learned from him?

I think if he has a professional interest here (as in, collected information, trends, etc) he should be banned. Why make an exception to the disclaimer to feed the WOD?

Who can tell the good from the bad online? In light of recent events I'm sure at least a few admins would agree with that. Food for thought.

Why would a Officer of the Law specializing in Digital Media/Internet Investigations register here at the shroomery?

Something tells me he doesn't want to learn how to grow gourmets. I'm sure he's not interested in Ethno's, and he can find Tubgirl elsewhere.

His activities here should be closely monitored, his IP logged etc...
I do however think his name is most fitting.

There are officers here.
This guy just has the balls to admit it.
I think it's more along the lines of a smack in the face regarding your security.....much harder to ignore the possibility of surveillence(sp) when you KNOW there's an officer about.

He seems like an alright guy from what i've read.....and Drug Squad officers have made some pretty serious contributions to certain other sites i could name.

Since he's a cop, his intentions should be assumed to be bad. Also, most users do not want him here.

It's been awhile, but last time I was in Mush. Cult. there weren't any large scale grow ops happening. Most of the time it's small scale, and just a hobby. I can't see the fed's putting man power into busting these kind of people.

Again, I am Canadian, and our police forces are much different. And I could be wrong.

Yes, he's a police officer.
He's just got the balls to make himself known as one.
There have been other people here who have displayed knowledge that could only have come from the LEO side of the fence.

Monitoring him just puts us in the same boat, and makes the overwhelming majority of us severe hypocrites.

If he wants to be a member, than so be it. As i stated earlier, there have been MANY instances in drug discussion forums where a LEO has made some excellent and informative contributions. Some of those scattered posts have saved people from possible prosecution.
Hell, there's even a website BY officers of the law who are against certain aspects of the War on Drugs.

Bottom line, if he wants to stay and breaks no rules, i say we treat him as any other member.
It's better to have an acknowledged and known threat than an unknown one.
If he's even a threat, which has yet to be determined.

Everyone should realize that the internet is a public medium and you have to be very careful what you say. If you aren't comfortable with TheBlkSheep seeing your posts, what about the anonymous, lurking officers who never introduce themselves? We don't reverse DNS our users anymore, but when we did there were always visitors from .gov and .mil in our logs every month. Get used to it, you shouldn't blame this one guy for the current legal climate. regdate & postcount thinking this guy has credability
amongst our users sets up a trade or something of the like.
or even worse, attends a gathering.
that would be disasterous for the shroomery if a shroomery function were to be busted.
especially if the media were to get involved.

once again, its not oging to be an out in the open cop who is going to do this. i personally wouldnt have any problem with him  being at a gathering, i think that it would be a good expierence for him to be there and see that what we do harms no one.
however i would make sure all of the other members that were gathering felt allright with this before he came, and im sure he would want the same concensus.

also look over at overgrow and see how much cops have helped people with their legal issues and questions aobut the laws and WOD. last time i checked ex-cop and a few others were great valuable resources, and we should recognise black sheep as one and welcome him into the comunity.

I definitely understand where you are coming from.

The problem is, he came here because he WANTED to help protect a friend, and instead of getting ANYONE in trouble, he worked with the Admins to come up with an effective, and peaceful solution. The trouble was stopped, one person was banned, and NOW another of the troublemakers is demanding he leave.

I see your point, but you must see the Admins. TBS came here to stop a potential legal issue from surfacing. One of the biggest crybabies is the guy who caused the harassment problem in the first place. In other words,the person who caused the cops to come, is now one of the folks demanding they leave.

I'm just guessing here, but I suspect some of the Admins like the fact this guy is here right now, because it keeps the troublemakers in check (I am not calling you a troublemaker 40).

As far as I know, TBS hasn't shown anyone his badge in here, he may not even be who he says he is.

So, the Admins, for reasons they have stated in this thread are letting TBS stay. You don't have to like it. You bring up solid points... but it isn't your website... nor is it mine (Although I don't mind TBS's presence... I find it is worse to watch members be HARASSED than it is to peacefully put an end to harassment.). TBS quickly, and politely, helped the Admins solve a tricky problem. Remember, the Admins can allow anyone they wish to be here, be here.

People say, "If you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen." I'm not saying you should leave, I just mean The Shroomery is a HOT website. This shouldn't surprise anyone. If it isn't for you, it isn't for you.

However, The Shroomery is also, a fucking cool and (usually peaceful) virtual commune. I can't blame someone from staying once they get a feel for the place.

I suppose, if you fail at getting him banned, you can always ignore him in the future. Most Shroomerites stay for a while, then leave. He could become bored, if he is no longer the center of attention.

I don't blame him for wanting to stay.

I don't blame the Admin for letting him stay.

I don't blame you, or others for being wary of a cop's presence. Cops are (or have been) a big obstacle for many at this Website.

From my limited conversations with him, he seems like an upstanding guy. I don't think I would attend a gathering if he was going, but I have no problems with him being here.

if he did come here to bust members:

1. he probably wouldn't have announced his presence.
2. he can't bust you if you use common sense (ie. don't post anything incriminating or use a secure connection if you absolutely must post evidence)
3. he probably wouldn't be the least bit helpful to the admins or anybody else here.

i have doubts that this guy's really a cop...

1- he's too coy... first he says he's a 'member of an unnamed law enforcement agency' then he sprinkles hints here and there about his job, his agency ,etc... he's obviously enjoying all the attention...

2- he has some knowledge of legal matters and law in general, yet he ignores the first concept taught to law students and cops, the idea that practicing law without a license is a felony. he gives legal advice freely, and does not hesitate to give his legal opinion on any topic he desires. this, to a lay person, is not a problem, but law students and cops know its illegal and are taught to avoid it

3- he gives his legal opinion as though the law is the same everywhere - nothing could be further from the truth.

I have a feeling that this guy works close to the law, but not in any official capacity, like a janitor in a courthouse or a runner for a legal secretary.

He doesn't talk or act like a cop, yet he DOES talk and act like a wannabe cop.

And thats the opinion of a former law student.

Since there are 13 pages about me, several questions, as well as some statements made that require clarification, I went against my original judgement and decided to try to clear up some of the drama.

Perhaps some background would be necessary. Even some personal info about me, if that would help.

First, let me say, the reason I am "coy" and sly about where I work and where I live is for one reason, and one reason only. To protect myself. There is a whole division within every department dedicated to policing their own, and I can tell you, without a shadow of a doubt, IA would have a nice talk with me, if they knew I was here, and they would have reason to do so. Nothing would come out of it, since I'm not here to work, and I'm not here doing anything wrong but partaking in conversation, but it would cause stress that I don't need, and bring attention to you, that none of you want.

Now if I was setting up deals, inquiring about how to grow shrooms, asking for ingredients for various susbstances, acting in a capacity that would make my department liable, it would be completely different, but I'm simply conversing with interesting people.

So yes, I am purposely hiding certain aspects of myself, not to protect myself from you, or to slink around like Mr. Secret Agent Man, but to keep any bullshit from starting up on my end.

That being said, I haven't been in law enforcement that long. 6 years. But before I got involved in it, I was not exactly the model citizen. At one point I also had a problem with prescription drugs and alcohol, but I worked through it, and I've been around it all for a long time (all kinds of drugs, you name it), not just from work, but from my own problems, and friends; some of them who continue to do it. Because of my unique point of view, I don't necessarily agree with existing drug laws, and I think millions and millions of dollars are wasted on them, but I don't get paid for my opinion.

Someone stated Syko. She never once asked me to help her. Never once did she "call the cops". She simply mentioned her problems with being harassed in e-mails, phone, messenger, and on her journal, and it had gotten to the point of ridiculousness, and regardless of how much she may or may not have been a bitch here in the past, it was hurting her, and no one should have to endure that kind of treatment. It was a conversation any friend would have with another. Being someone who had the power to look into it, I did. Any of you would have done the same for any of your friends, I'm sure.

I orginally approached Ythan with concerns of outside harassment of a friend. Outside harassment. In the process of talking with him, I also mentioned a possibility of liability to himself and the site because of it. Granted, it was a very very slim possibility, but a possibility none-the-less. But mainly, I wanted the harassment to end, and if I could prevent some people from getting in trouble over something as stupid as it all was, then even better. That is why I announced who I was, and what I was doing. If I was here to bust people, do you honestly think I would have done so?

I have had talks like I did with Ythan several different times, with different people (unrelated instances), and never have I had such a pleasurable experience, and been treated with such respect from him, his Administrators and his moderators.

Originally I approached the OTD under the assumption that the whole place was a cesspool of cracked out, egotistical, internet bullies, who needed to be knocked off their high horses.

I was wrong. They proved me wrong. It was only a few select assholes that not even their own community cared much for.

After Ythan and my exchange of e-mails, I realized that it was unfair to judge, especially knowing what I know about the "other side of the law" and decided to hang around a few days to give them the benefit of the doubt. I'm glad I did, and I began to enjoy my interactions with 90% of them, I ignored the rest who jacked with me. I learned long ago, to ignore people who were too insignificant to communicate with, most especially on the internet.

I enjoy interacting with different people, so, I figured "What the hell" and stuck around a bit.

Now, LF and 40 bring up a good point. I would feel the same way, and their concerns are valid (regardless of how they may have expressed them).

Honestly, if I was here to bust ass in an official capacity, I would sit silently and watch for about two weeks, not telling anyone who I was. I'd gather pictures, take screen captures, check out profiles, and put together suspect case files. That's how it would start, and the first person I would go after is LF. He's too paranoid, seems to have a shitload of time on his hands, doesn't seem to possess that much intelligence, projects an ungodly amount of false bravado, thrives off of drama, rolls around in attention like a pig in slop, has a habit of bad mouthing authority while he sits on his ass behind his computer screen, and has a giant anarchy symbol in his sig, all of which scream guilt. Might as well scream it on a street corner with a bullhorn. It makes sense he would be the one to raise such a stink about me hanging out here. I'll just leave it at that, as I'm not here to flame people.

I've taken alot of heat throughout this ordeal, and it's caused stress that I did not expect, not just from certain people here, but it's also put alot of stress on Syko's and my friendship, and it will never be the same again, I am afraid. I had hoped that in time, she would come to accept the fact that I acted with her best interests in mind, but I am beginning to think that's not going to happen anytime soon, because she really loves this place, and few assholes, and drama aside, I can see why. I don't think she's going to let me live this one down. A real pity. I hate losing friends like this, over something so ridiculous.

But I did learn a valuable lesson. To never do this again.

In closing, I would never want to make people feel uncomfortable in their own community. I'm an outsider. That being said, out of respect for the community and it's Administrators, I will take my leave of you all, and go back to the other of the fence.

To Ythan, the other Administrators, Moderators, and those of you whom I've cultivated some sort of acquaintance, and even loose friendship with in the short period of time I have been here, thank you. It has been a ton of fun for me, that was needed much more than you know, and brought back alot of memories of old times.

Ythan, please ban me, to further avoid anymore drama regarding my presence here. The last thing I want is to be party to any sort of drama, if it can be avoided.
